Zone bars taste great, and they're also great to have around for a small protein boost. I keep a few at my desk at work, and a few in my car. They're not the best for a total protein dose because they only have 12 grams in each bar, but they can help prevent you from becoming totally depleted.

In my quest to lose and maintain weight over the years, I've tried numerous protein shakes and bars. I find the protein fills me up with quality calories and keeps me energized. Unfortunately, the market is saturated with poor-quality (taste and/or nutrition). These bars come out on top, though. Lots of good stuff packed into a really good-tasting bar. While I don't like every ZonePerfect bar out there, as a chocolate-lover, this and the Dark Chocolate Almond bars are my favorites.

Zone Perfect Double Dark Chocolate Bars -- I love dark chocolate, and these bars have a terrific dark-chocolate taste that is not too sweet. (However, my wife prefers sweeter tastes, and does not like these bars. They may not be sweetened enough for people who prefer sugary tastes. I eschew sugary foods, and love these bars.) I often need an energy boost before going to an evening workout, but don't like to eat a regular meal before class; a single Zone Perfect Double Dark Chocolate Bar is the perfect snack, and gives me energy to get through the entire hour-long class. My 6yo loves them, too. (He and I will often share a bar -- and sometimes his version of 'share' doesn't leave much for the Daddy.)
A warning about these bars: They have a chocolate coating that melts easily. This can make them somewhat messy if you're not careful. Even worse, DO NOT HAVE THEM SHIPPED IN HOT WEATHER. If they're exposed to an excessively warm environment, the chocolate coating will melt -- and it crystallizes as it cools (i.e., when you bring them inside an air-conditioned house). As the [typically soft] coating crystallizes, it becomes brittle and flaky, which creates an enormous mess when you eat it. (In fact, you can't even open the wrapper without creating a mess.) I've noticed that this happens if the bars are shipped in hot weather -- just having them left at your door on a hot summer day is enough create this problem -- and it affects the entire box. If you live in a very warm location, then either have them shipped to a UPS or FedEx counter, or buy them at a store and keep them cool during the summer months.
Despite the need to keep the bars from getting too warm, they taste great and provide a nice energy burst when you need it.

A wonderful, tasty dark chocolate flavor perfect when you are having a major craving but need something that isn't incredibly unhealthy. Highly recommend!

I tend to eat Zone bars for breakfast or between meal snack and this was just a little too much chocolate for me for those purposes. The flavor was good, though, and it would make a good dessert.
