Way too salty, and flavor is just ok.Sep 17, 2011
By Chris "Mr. Jones" My biggest complaint with this flavor of Zatarain's is the amount of sodium it contains. The Nutrition Facts on the box says it has 980mg per serving, which is equivalent to a whopping 41% of the Percent Daily Values. That's PER SERVING, of about 5 servings per box. That's just way too much salt... by comparison, the regular Zatarain's Jambalaya Mix contains only about half the sodium. Even when I added more meat(I used chicken instead of ground beef as suggested), the dish still came out too salty. I finally decided that in order to make this mix more edible, I had to discard about one-third to one-half of the seasonings. The seasonings come all clumped together anyway so it wasn't difficult to separate it from the rice before cooking.
In terms of flavor, I wasn't too impressed either. The seasoning is basically chicken bouillon cubes with some spices, like oregano and basil. Not terrible, but not terribly inventive either.
So, with apologies to the three 5-star reviews that came before mine, I do not recommend this product. To each his own, I guess.

howdy y'all,
this is WONDERFUL stuff! i make it with olive oil instead of butter and with grilled beef sausage & chicken breast chunks instead of ground beef. it's spicy, tasty and filling. it reheats nicely, too. goes well in a burrito-size four tortilla, in a pita or all by itself. it meets all of my requirements, all of my expectations AND exceeds them by a good bit.
rated a FIVE cuz it's fab. [*grin*]
take care,
lee

I love Zatarain's Garlic & Herb rice mixMar 07, 2010
By Sherrill M. Meeks I was tickled to death to find out that this product was available thru Amazon.com. I have not been able to find it in my local stores (Port Orchard, WA) and when I had gone to visit relatives in Florida a couple of winters ago they had this product and I fell in love with it. They have since been sending me a care package of rice occasionally. I'm glad I was able to find it for myself on line.Zatarain's New Orleans Style Garlic & Herb Rice Mix, 8-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12)

Good stuff!Oct 06, 2009
By Karalin Lyons This is the only Zatarain's that my family (including three young children) will eat, but it's impossible to find in stores around here. I was so happy to find it on Amazon, and as a Prime member with free two-day shipping, the price is BETTER than at the store anyway!! SO HAPPY!! I cut up smoked sausage and cook that before I add the rice mix. Mmmm. One box, plus a few sausages feeds my entire family. Great product!!
