5I prefer pre-inked stampsOct 22, 2011
By Big Al "Alan Rivière"
I used a number of stamps through the years. There are those that work with an inkpad. You manually press the stamp onto the inkpad, then impress the stamp image onto the paper. Stamps like those have largely disappeared from the market because they are cumbersome. There are the "self-inking" stamps. They incorporate a mechanical linkage such that the stamp passes over an inkpad before impresses on the paper in one stroke. The problem with this kind of stamps is that low spots eventually develop on the inkpad making the stamp image hard to read. Then there are the "pre-inked" stamps - the inkpad and the stamp are one and the same. Another way of saying the same thing is that the stamps are carved out of the inkpads. I prefer this type. I own one and it is still working after 5 years without a re-ink. The stamp under review is a pre-inked stamp with red ink. On the stamp, there is a rectangular box under the word "received" for entry of the date by hand. The stamp can be re-inked by removing the handle. The spring action works smoothly and the image produced by the stamp is clear. The stamp clicks into a rectangular "tray" when not in use. I am pleased with this purchase.
