Drivers are atrocious!Aug 11, 2009
By anonymous The printed output is fine. The drivers are horrible.
I hate background utilities that must standby and occupy resources in order for the equipment to function. I have never had an Epson operate this way.
If the print manager is removed from the system tray (not run at start-up), you are sunk. The drivers and utilities must be uninstalled then manually removed from the XP registry. If the preceding removals are not accomplished, Windows XP may hang during a reboot. Also, the USB port to which the printer is attached will report a malfunction.
Initially, I thought it was the communications board. So, I disassembled the unit for a look. Everything seemed well. However, as an experienced technician, I can declare the electronics assembly a fairly haphazard design. I insulated and grounded the comm. board properly.
All in all, typical Xerox junk made in China.
Solid Printer Except for One ProblemApr 19, 2012
By J. B. S. About six months ago I bought this printer to use as a non-networked printer hooked up to my Dell Latitude laptop running Windows 7. I had no trouble hooking it up and it has run flawlessly ever since when printing 8.5 X 11 letterhead. Unfortunately, the printer does not work well with envelopes as it consistently wrinkles the envelopes during the printing process and heat seals the gum on the flap. I can usually separate the flap and re-seal it once the letter is folded and inserted in the envelope, and with a little effort I can straighten out the wrinkles. But really.... What is the utility of a laser printer that mauls envelopes?
If the envelopes were not a problem I would rate this printer with 5 stars; as is, I can only give it three stars because the envelope treatment rates only one star. It's very frustrating. Fortunately for me I am not a high volume user and some of my print jobs to not require envelopes, so I can fiddle around with this when necessary. I may also go to labels or window envelopes if I can't get this fixed so it does the whole job.
Edit: In case anyone wonders, I have tried it with two different brands and quality of envelope with the same result. I checked Xerox's specs for envelopes and mine meet them.

Buyer Beware! Horrible Drivers and No Forward CompatibilityNov 03, 2010

"rocket scientist"
Xerox customer support is non-existent. If you can talk with technical support during the warranty period, you will get "follow the direction on the web site". After warranty expires, Xerox requires a $25 payment to talk with customer service. Xerox also doesn't provide working drivers for older printer models on new operating systems such as Windows 7. Save yourself some time and money and buy from a company that understands the meaning of "customer" and "technical support".

Fantastic printer!!!Jun 14, 2010
By Keith T. Cobbett I bought one of these for my office. Worked like a pro. Now I'm in the process of replacing all of our older HP printers with these. As soon as I changed the default "sleep" settings, haven't heard a complaint yet.
OS X.6 picked it right up. WinXP same thing. Did need to install the software for XP, but didn't mind. Works flawlessly.

Buyer beware not for networking, not for Mac OS 10.6Dec 03, 2009
By R. Benson To make it brief. BUYER BEWARE PURCHASE AT YOUR OWN RISK
We purchased this unit earlier this year. The initial setup took some time. We wanted to network the printer on a Microsoft SBS 2003 system. First you are required to hook it up via USB to a client machine to setup the IP address. When we attempted to install the software on the SBS system it could not find the printer. After a considerable amount of time experimenting we were able to get it up and running on several XP clients and one Mac running OSX 10.5 the included documentation is worthless, so is the Xerox website.
The unit worked for a couple of months until I installed Mac OSX 10.6 on the Mac client immediately I was unable to print to the Xerox printer. I had two epsons, one samsung, two HPs and a Richo printer that worked without issues on the upgrade the only printer that did not was the Xerox. I went to the Xerox website to look for a newer driver for Mac 10.6. I installed it and found out that I needed newer firmware for the printer. I downloaded the firmware and ran the installation file. After installation the printer rebooted and appeared to have the new firmware installed correctly. Now the printer would not work with any of the attached clients. I called Xerox to be told that the printer has no warranty and they could not help me, even though it was not registered and showed a ship date of less than a year to the reseller. We had purchased from Amazon less than 5 months previous but I had no time to look up the invoice.
I attempted to uninstall the Windows drivers on the server and all of the clients. After downloading and installing the latest Windows drivers from the Xerox website the installer failed to find the printer on the network. I was able to ping the printer and print a test page from the printers webpage but the installer still would not work. Having spent hours on this problem I went out and purchased a new HP, plugged it into the network installed the drivers and was up and running in less than 15 minutes on all systems.
Based on the poor engineering on this unit and the substandard support I would not purchase from Xerox in the future.
