The best red beans & rice mixture available and it cooks well in the rice cooker too!Sep 24, 2009
By pixels and bits Vigo knows how to combine flavors. Living in the South, we have occasion to eat "real" home made red beans and rice fairly frequently. Vigo, by far, makes the best store bought variety on the market. Cook it up and add some hot sausage to it and you've got a meal that will be devoured in no time flat.
We been long time fans of their Red Beans & Rice and Black Beans & Rice mixtures and I was delighted to find that they easily cook in our rice cooker by following the following steps: I measured the contents of the package and then simply added an extra half cup of water. Even if you're cooking 2 packages you only add an extra half cup of water more than the contents. For example, if there is 1 cup of rice & seasoning, I'd use 1 and 1/2 cups of water in my rice cooker. It never fails to come out perfect every time!

The BEST red beans & riceMar 05, 2009

I 1st found Vigo red beans & rice in a dollar store about 3 years ago. Since then I have been unable to find any mix that beats it! I've tried several brands, including the brand that always has commercials on tv(starts with a 'z')...none of them come close to Vigo. I just add a pound of browned ground beef or ground turkey to the cooked rice & have myself a whole meal. I just wish that this rice was easier to find in my local grocery stores. Buy it, eat it, love it!

Pack of rice with a few beans added.Apr 11, 2012
By J. Di Bartola Pack of rice with a few beans added. BAD. I was and am very disappointed! Been to Louisiana and New Orleans many times. Never experienced any dissatisfaction at any of the eateries/restaurants. I always tried the gumbo's and the Red beans and rice. This was truly sad experience. 75% rice 25% beans is what you get. Honestly, very disappointing.

The BEST!!!!Nov 12, 2009

I was sorely disappointed when our local supermarket stopped carrying this item and have been searching for it high and low. It is the MOST delicious, simple to prepare meal and my family and I LOVE it! It doesn't need anything to dress it up but I do add one small diced tomato (since fresh produce is important) and a pound of sliced smoked sausage. I made it for a potluck since I was short on time before the event and had so many inquiries about the "recipe"!

My favorite side dishJan 28, 2009
By Shawn I have tried every brand of packaged red beans and rice I can find and this is by far the best.Makes perfect southern style rice and beans with a creamy rice and gravy consistency.
