Labeling is IncorrectAug 22, 2010
By Tofatiam First I wish to say I have no problem with the quality of this product. It is a good, fairly low sodium turkey.
My problem is in the serving size information. The can says serving size is two ounces DRAINED and there are "about four" servings a can. To me this means between 3.5 and 4.4 servings a can - or 7.0-8.8 ounces of turkey per can.
I have weighed the last three cans and the drained weights are 5.7 ounces, 6.0 ounces and 5.9 ounces. This is about 15% less than the stated minimum on the label. At this average you are paying $8.75 per pound of meat.
Quality product but you are NOT getting the quantity advertised.

Not as Natural AnymoreMar 24, 2011
By Another reader from Ontario Canada I have used this formerly terrifc product for over 10 years. It was the only canned turkey sold in North America that contained no food additives. It was just turkey, water, and sea salt.
As of this month( March 2011) new labelling and contents have appeared. The label now proclaims "Better Flavor".
The product now contains 50% more sodium - at a time when many manufacturers are either cutting back on salt content or introducing "reduced sodium" vesions of their tradtional products.
Worse yet, the "Better Flavor" is achieved by adding "rice starch", "vegetable starch" ( a call to the company revealed that this is potato starch) and "broth" - which contains, among other listed ingredients, "natural flavor" (derived from corn - an increasingly common food allergen ).
This product is now useless to me as I am highly sensitive to corn products. While the label still claims the product is gluten free, which was pretty much guaranteed before, since it had only turkey, water and sea salt in it, this claim is now somewhat suspect in as much as with the introduction of each new additive, there is the possiblitly of cross contamination in the prodution of the various grain based starches and "flavors"
The company needs to re-think this change. What made them unique and a mainstay for people on specialized diets, was their plain and simple good food. Now they are little different from every other canned meat that is adulterated with unecessary and unwanted food additives.
They can kiss goodbye all their former customers who are allergic to or sensitive to corn, processed starches, who are on the Atkins or no grain diets, who have arthritis which is exacerbated by potatoes, and who avoid processed food additives in general.
The company also needs to be more up front in their new labelling and say "potato starch" rather than "vegetable starch" AND in bold print say "Contains Corn" to warn customers who are allergic to corn products that they probably should now avoid the product.
Hopefully this "Better Flavor" change will be about as successful as New Coke" and we will see Valley Fresh "Classic" Turkey in a year so.

Valley Fresh White Turkey in WaterApr 30, 2009
By joan This is a great product! Rather than the highly processed turkey slices generally encountered in "convenience" foods, this gives you genuine chunks of cooked turkey breast with natural flavor. I prefer it for sandwiches, and would not be afraid to substitute it for home-cooked turkey in any recipe. (I suspect that turkey has lower fat content than chicken--if so, this product might be substituted advantageously for chicken in many uses).

Disappointing changesMay 31, 2011

"a Christian"
The Valley Fresh 100% Natural White Turkey in Water as shown here, and as I've been ordering for quite some time, is excellent. It contains only turkey, water and salt. I order it because my daughter and I have a large number of food sensitivities, which makes finding whole foods without added ingredients difficult.
For those of you who use this product because you need to know EXACTLY what's in it, the company has changed the product, and it is no longer what you see here. It has rice starch, "vegetable" starch...who knows what that means...and turkey broth, which could mean anything, including onion, garlic and yeast...all of which will set my daughter and I back. By that, I mean it will take months to recover from the damage it's likely to do.
Please take a look at the ingredient list on the Valley Fresh site for their exact listing. A great disappointment! And now I have a ton of product that only my husband can use.

Tender and juicy, very convenient.Feb 21, 2010
By Amazon Addict Turkey can sometimes be dry but this is actually very good. Tender, juicy, and convenient for those on a diet but without a lot of time.
