Terrible on its own, but great when mixed with whey proteinJan 13, 2011

I got this on clearance at my local grocery store several years ago. I'd tried flavored whey protein before and thought I'd give soy protein a try. Trying unflavored soy protein came as a bit of a shock, though. Someone else referred to this as tasting like poison - I won't go that far, but it's definitely unpleasant. I choked down my first serving and only managed a few more before I gave up and just left it on my shelf. The whey protein has twice the protein per scoop and tastes far better.
A year or so later (this stuff has a long shelf life) I figured I'd give it another try, but decided to mix it with whey protein if just for the flavor. I found that I actually like the blend a lot. Most whey protein is overly sweet and a blend of the two smooths that out. It adds a slightly gritty texture that I for some reason actually like. Another plus is that mixing the two decreases the total cholesterol.
There have been a lot of debates over whether whey or soy protein is better - why not just go with both? Mixing the two proteins gives a different blend of nutrition, giving the benefits of both animal and vegetable based proteins.

Thick protein shakeApr 13, 2010

I purchased TwinLab's Vege Fuel for the high content, 30g, of Soy Protein in it. I also love the unflavored factor as well since most protein flavored powders are very synthetic tasting to me. I use coconut milk and almond milk with 2 scoops of this powder, a bananna or pineapple, ground flax and somtimes a small amount of peanut butter and it makes a very thick drink. It also keeps me full way past lunch time so I can either have another smaller shake or a salad until I eat a larger, healthy protein meal at night. Overall I think this is a great product. It has a large amount of plant protein, keeps me full, doesn't taste chalky or synthetic and is quite creamy and thick. I go back and forth between TwinLab and Click proteins for a little variety.

Great.Feb 07, 2010
By HWJ3 I've been using this product for several years now. Since its not sweetened it is versatile. I use it to substitute for part of the flour in baked good recipes, particularly pancakes, to increase protein content. I mix some into savory dishes, particularly soup, to make vegetarian lunches with a good hit of protein.
Great Protien for Vegans!Mar 15, 2010
By Dominic Gadoury I am a vegan and I use this as an alternative to Pea Protein to mix things up. Of course Twin Lab is a good name and comes with quality.

Tastes Like PoisonApr 12, 2010
By C. Martin This powder has a powerful bitter, chemical taste. I tried mixing it with cherries, banannas and peanut butter and nothing fully masks the flavor. It also has a persistent after-taste.
After 3 smoothies made of this stuff I can no longer stomach it. Try a flavored variety, or something else.
