Solid and simpleMar 13, 2011

I have purchased several of these over the past few years. They are simple, no-nonsense 2.5 inch HD enclosures that do the job well. With the drive inserted, it feels more solid that several brand-name external HDs that I've owned. They never get warm and the drive is nice and snug inside the enclosure. I've never noticed a drive vibrating while reading or writing either.
All in all, it's a solid buy.

Second one I boughtDec 19, 2010
By AWBoater This is the second Transcend enclosure I purchased (the first one was RED). When I purchase a new computer, I typically put in larger hard drives. Why pay $100 or more to the computer company for a larger hard drive when you can install your own cheaper and have a spare drive for use as a portable drive?
If you are prone to doing so, these drive enclosures allow you to reutilize the removed drive. Don't sell your removed drive on eBay for a few bucks; rather - buy a drive enclosure and you will have a nice portable backup drive for photos, etc. for just the few dollars the enclosure costs.
If you purchase an already assembled portable drive, such as a WD Passport, you have to contend with a virtual drive; if you buy an IOmega drive, you may get a OEM drive with a 1yr warranty (in contrast most raw drives you buy carry 3yr or 5yr warranties).
I am always having problems with the WD Passport virtual drive; either the driver is missing when I upgrade OS, or not recognized by Linux, and even if I disable it, there have been some permission issues. I don't need that kind of complexity in my life, all I want is a simple disk drive for storage of photos, and I don't need any virtual drive messing with me.
And since I use Linux for my NAS, WD's virtual drive AND IOmega's drives don't play well with the NAS'es OS. This stuff is in the firmware of the drive enclosure I believe, and all but impossible to get rid of. I might be wrong, but there seem to be "issues" with those drives on anything but Windows and perhaps Mac OSes.
A simple drive enclosure as the Transcend; coupled with a standard 2.5" internal HDD works perfectly, and is perhaps cheaper; especially if you re-use a drive you removed from your computer after upgrading it.
Transcend StoreJet HD HousingApr 01, 2012
By Richard This product was perfect to contain a hard drive from a Mac mini. Easy install; works perfectly. I replaced the factory HD with a SSD and put the removed HD in the Transcend case so it can function as an external drive. A simple and elegant solution to a problem. Now the Mac mini has an extra 500 GB hard drive sitting on top of it to store whatever I want to add to it.
Just as expectedFeb 20, 2012
By RLL This is a good little enclosure. It works as expected, runs a little hot, and is really light and compact. It will get the job done if your goal is to reclaim an old 2.5" SATA drive. It isn't a long-term solution because it is cheaply made, and it isn't the prettiest enclosure out there. It is, though, inexpensive and functional.
A bit pricey, but worth having itDec 11, 2011
By Rushafi Setup took only 3 minutes. Just pulled the screws, slided in the hard disk and put the screws again. Working great since then. The enclosure feels solid and cool and no noise from the hard disk. Another plus side is it looks great!
