5Before you write, have the knowledge!Mar 08, 2008

This product, Tide HE 2x Concentrated Liquid Detergent with Bleach Alternative, Original Scent, is one of the best detergents on the market.

Yes, it is more expensive than other brands, but you can't beat it for getting out stains. If you have spot stains, just pour a little directly on the stain and throw it in the washer.

An alternate (at a lower cost) that works pretty well is GAIN HE, and can be found at Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Concentrated-Liquid-Detergent-Original-Bottle/dp/B000O3FEOU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1205015890&sr=8-1

--but it's no Tide HE.

Tide HE leaves behind a wonderful fresh scent, which I describe as a combination of lemon, fresh air and good old soap.

Combined with it's "sister" product, Downy Ultra, you get the freshest smelling laundry around.

Now, about those other ratings. Why would you rate a product one star (and make others think it is an inferior product) if you made the mistake of ordering the wrong product?

As pointed out by a previous reviewer, the HE (high efficiency) detergent formulas are always more expensive than other detergents. HE is designed for washers that load in the front and that use VERY little water--and guess what(?!)--you need a detergent that has a totally different formulation than that for standard, water-guzzling washers. In other words, it won't work in your regular washer.

I do recommend that if you can, when it comes time to replace your old washer that you try an HE front loader. Your clothes will never be cleaner and you will be saving water--great for your water bill, and the environment!

5Always read the description.Feb 16, 2008

Judging from the problems people are complaining about, it seems many of the reviews above are comparing this to standard detergent. This is special High Efficiency (HE) detergent for side loading washers. It's more expensive then standard detergent. I see one of these bottles in the store for about 25 bucks. It's designed to have less suds and be used in with lower soap to water ratio, which is most likely why one of the reviewers above was having issues with smelly laundry. Side loading washers used 30-40 percent less water, so the water in those will be a lot more soapy than if used in a top loader. Always read the descriptions when shopping online, and if you don't know what 'HE' stands for, ask the internet. I've been using this detergent for a while now, does the job, the dirtiest of work towels always come out clean and fresh smelling. This four pack will last me about a year and for the price, you can beat it.

5Love my Tide w/bleach and HE washing machine!Jun 01, 2008
By P. Draper "pdraper"
I've been using Tide with bleach for years and years. I've tried other detergents, and this one gets our clothes the cleanest, keeps our whites whitest and gets most stains out. My family has really tested it too! My kids played softball, baseball and high school football all of which really tested the stain and "smell" factors. Now, I have a baby granddaughter who is testing the baby stain capabilities. Again, Tide with bleach is a winner! To be fair, sometimes I do have to use a pretreatment on a really tough stain (mustard, grape juice, etc.) and I do have to take extra steps with mildewed towels, but overall this is a great product.

It's really no wonder that Consumer Reports rated this highest out of the 11 HE detergents they tested (for conventional washers, out of 24 tested, Tide 2X Ultra Concentrated With a Touch of Downy liquid, Tide 2X Ultra Concentrated for Cold Water liquid and Tide With Bleach With Color Clean ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively).

Now, about my HE washer and dryer . . . if you need to replace your top loader, consider getting a HE washer and dryer. I have seen a HUGE drop in both my electrical and water bills. I'm saving more than $200 a month.

5Trusted detergent for 6 yearsSep 07, 2010
By Michael Zhang "Michael Quincy"
I've always bought this specific type of Tide detergent for two reasons: I play a lot of tennis and it removes odors and dirt from colors easily. And it's a high-efficiency detergent, meaning it's specifically-suited for my high-efficiency washer. I've used it for the past 6 years on my clothes and no problems have ever arisen with the quality of the washes. I've never had to prewash or pretreat any of my clothes for the results to show themselves. I will faithfully continue to use this detergent for years to come and suggest it for anyone who owns a high-efficiency washer and is looking for a brand of detergent for whites and colors.

Note: for those of you who are new to HE washers and their respective detergents, HE detergent is a different from traditional detergent in that it's low-sudsing which is needed for washers that use less water to run. The extra sudsing of regular detergent can confuse some HE washers and interfere with wash cycles. I own a front-loading HE washer and the manual specifically asks for HE detergent only. Please read your manual and check about this requirement, because you might end up buying the wrong detergent for your washer!

45-star product, 2-star shipping by AmazonSep 07, 2010
By Douglas Stoltzfus
I've been a huge fan of Tide for years, and recently bought a front-loading washer requiring HE detergents. Bought my first bottle of this product locally and have been as happy with it as I've been with the previous Tide with Bleach Alernative I used in traditional lop-loading machines in the past. Cleans amazingly well, and is pretty much at the top of the list in Consumer Reports' reviews of detergents. A little more expensive than some other detergents, but you get what you pay for. I'm happy to pay a little more for a product if it delivers on its promises as compared to the competition, and my experience with this detergent has been consistent with this view.

My only issue here is that the four bottles of product were shipped in a box that was barely strong enough to hold the product, with very little protection from puncture, etc. One of the four bottles was leaking upon arrival because of this. Shipping something like this requires better packaging to ensure the product's integrity throughout the shipping process. I'll give them another chance with my next shipment, but if the same thing happens again, I'll need to buy locally.
