 Too spicy for a coffee substituteOct 18, 2008

If you like chai (like the tea kind), this is for you. It's VERY spicy. Not spicy hot, spicy like heavy on the cinnamon,cardamom, etc. If you are a COFFEE lover looking for a caffeine-free substitute, this is probably not for you. Tastes absolutely nothing like coffee. It does have nice body and I like it mixed with decaf coffee to tone down the spice-flavor. Definitely serve with milk as the spices clash with any flavored creamer.

This is a great substitute for coffee. It has NO caffeine. But it has a little bite so it reminds one of coffee. And there is a little spice taste that makes it good to drink in its own right.

I had only bought what I could find locally and being the midwest the choices were limited and somewhat more costly. I bought this and find it to be the flavor of Chai I purchase in coffee shops. I make it in my drip coffee maker (always using a filter) and save it all in the refrigerator adding milk or soy at the point of use. It is turning out to be quite the bargain!

I normally drink caffeine free chai tea and the brand I have been drinking for years was reformulated and I passionately dislike the new version.
This particular flavor has been a Godsend for me.
If you love cinnamon, this product is for you--but only if you like a full-bodied, coffee-style beverage. It does take some getting used to because it is not tea-like in any way and it is designed to be brewed in either a drip-style coffee maker or a french press. It's the tea version of ground coffee beans, and you treat it as such. I use no more than 1/2 of a tablespoon to a 14 oz cup and add sugar and an ounce of half&half. It is rich and delicious, just like coffee.
Maya Chai is advertised as a coffee substitute and the brew process is identical, the only difference being you don't have to grind any beans.
I highly recommend this product. It is absolutely delicious.
