Just "OK" ...Nov 25, 2009
By L. Mountford OK, I'll admit it -- I sometimes look for time-saving "convenience" foods for those days when I have too little time and energy to put together a first-class meal. I think I've tried just about every available version of "cooked rice in a micro-wavable pouch." Some are pretty good, some are just OK.
This is one of the "just OK" ones.
It's not terrible by any means, and once you load it up with stuff (I usually top it with curry of some kind), you can sort of get past the somewhat pasty texture.
The directions are rather standard for this type of product: tear open the pouch at the top about 1"-2", and microwave on high for 90 seconds. Some have you "massage" the pouch first; this one does not. After nuking, you tear open the pouch (carefully! it's hot in there), empty into a dish, and "fluff" with a fork. Every pouch I've tried has been more or less gummy, not exactly what I expect from this type of rice product. And it's not the same texture as traditional sticky rice, either. Hard to describe, but more starchy/pasty than I think it should be.
The flavor is pretty good -- definitely has that "jasmine" flowery rice flavor. But the texture just isn't that great right out of the package.
I'm trying the long-grain version of this next.
NOT EDIBLE- DO NOT BUY THIS!!!Mar 17, 2010
By G. Keida I bought this to go with the instant curries I have been ordering from Amazon (by the way, the taste of india kind that they discontinued was way better than the tasty bite brand that they have replaced it with).
It is totaly inedible. Its hard, tastes like old rice that has been in your fridge for a couple of weeks. I wasn't expecting something that tasted like fresh made, but this is completely impossible to eat. I tried to feed it to my dog and even she would not eat it.
I want my money back, Amazon.
