This thing ROCKS!Nov 22, 2009
By Evan Richardson I bought this drive as a replacement for a HTPC I build using a Zotac Ion-A-U board, and 4 GB of ram. I was using a Fujitsu laptop hard drive (MHV2040BH) but when running HD Tune, I only could get about 29MB/sec read speed off the drive. I use a Media Center application called XBMC ([...]) for my HTPC, and as it sat with the Fujitsu, it would take 27 seconds to get to the user interface. Pretty fast, but I wanted even faster.
I haven't tried this drive in my HTPC yet, but I did run HD Tune on it, and I am astounded! Average Read speed: 142MB/sec, Write Speed, aroun 34-50MB/sec. Since I keep my media stored on a NAS on my gigabit network, I don't care about write speed (except to update database and other stuff, but that is very VERY minimal writing) See speed graphs below. There were a few quirks in the write speed graph, not sure if this is HD Tune's fault, or if maybe its something with the controller, but overall, I'm extremely impressed with this thing, as I wanted it for Reading only, and it's about 7 times faster than the laptop hard drive.
