"A Reader"
I believe it was in "THE ORIGINAL PREPPY HANDBOOK", (an 'oldie but a goodie' if there ever was one -- and for sale on Amazon, too!), that I read the words, "Anything from Stouffer is good." Stouffer boxed, prepared food thus has a 'cachet', that I doubt few, if any, other generaly available frozen meals have. Stouffer USED to have mostly -- or all -- natural ingredients in their products. Sadly, this is not the case here, with STOUFFER'S VEAL PARMIGINAA DINNER, 11.62-OUNCE, 12-Count Boxes....but it is still quite delicious.
The reason I bought this product, (instead of the also-quite-yummy OMAHA STEAKS BREADED VEAL PATTIES), is, of course, because the Stouffer's product, (at least at this writing), ships for free, whilst the Omaha Steaks Veal Patties have a shipping charge almost as large as the item price itself! Even though the Stouffer's product comes with spaghetti, and sauce, I figured that at least half the weight, (more, if the pictue on the package was accurate), should be of the veal patty -- and, since the Omaha Steaks veal patties weigh 4 ounces each, and the Stouffer's package weighs 11.62 ounces, I might even come out ahead....
Well, the package contains more spaghetti than is noticable on the package front, (or perhaps all that extra spaghetti is in the back of the pictured veal patty, so we can't see it?) Anyway, the picture on the front seesm to say there is about 25% spaghetti in this package, whilst, when I opned it up, it wa more like 45% spaghetti.
The veal patty in this Stouffer's product is very tasty. It also seems to have less breading on it than the Omaha Steaks veal patty, and tastes slightly more like true veal cutlets than the Omaha Steaks patty. But the Stouffer's patty seems dfinitely to be s m a l l e r than Omaha Steaks veal patty.
Though the Stouffer's version is very tasty, I can't get away from the fact that I MAY have over-paid the product price. Yes, you get free shipping....but the item price is $59.95!
I suppose it's a case of "six of one, half-a-dozen of another." This item DOES include spaghetti, cheese, and tomato sauce, (making it veal parmigina), and a heating tray, whereas the Omaha Steaks item contains only a breaded patty. Spaghetti, cheese, (and veal, too), make one VERY sleepy -- so I wouldn't eat more than one of these at a time. Oh yes....the Stouffer's box contains a "Dinner Club" code -- which redeems in points for bidding on, and/or buying Stouffer's premiums.
Which is better? Which is a better bargain? I suppose that's for the individual to decide. If only the Omaha Steaks company would ship with free shipping, it would be the sure winner....
