Mac User WarningFeb 29, 2008
By A. Ross As others have written, the entire SmartDisk USB line doesn't work properly with Mac laptops. I got one and it works fine with my wife's PC laptops, but won't even boot on my PowerBook G4. SmartDisk's tech support told me that the silver PowerBook line can't push enough juice through the USB cable to power the unit. So basically I have a silver paperweight -- nice. Avoid this product line at all costs.

Doesn't work and non-existent phone supportNov 06, 2007
By Buffalo Wings Bought this at CompUSA yesterday. Plugged it into my iBook (mid 2005) with 10.5 Leopard, and nada. The blue light went on, I could hear the hard drive spinning, but it wouldn't mount.
Shut down and restarted. Nope, that didn't make it work. Reset the power management thingy, still nothing. Opened the manual to find tech support, went to smartdisk dot com, clicked the support tab, and it went to an error page (its now back up). Did a bit more searching, and read similar reports of it not mounting, so took it back to the store and exchanged it for a Toshiba.

No problems at all!Dec 01, 2007

"just a review . . ."
I bought the FireLite, plugged it in, and it worked great. (I have an HP Pavillion zx5000; Windows XP) Fast transfer, quiet as a shadow, very small and portable. The nice thing about this unit is that I don't need an external power source: it gets all the juice it needs through the USB port. (Not all computers will support this, but mine does.) All in all, it's a great mass-storage unit that is lightweight and portable. And the price? At $199.00, that's less than eighty cents per GB. That's a better bargain than green stamps (for those of us who remember).

Didn't work and no product support from mfg'erAug 31, 2008
By Clinton I have had a 60GB Firelite portable HD for years and I love it. I am soon going on a photo safari in Africa and decided I needed a larger one. The 250GB Firelite drive looks great, but performed poorly. When I connected it to my desktop computer two things happened. My computer would not recognize the HD and my computer would freeze up. I tried all the solutions listed in the FAQ section of the mfg'er's website. I called their technical service but was never able to get through. I e-mailed them for help, but never heard back.

Just plain BADOct 09, 2008
By M. S. Petry I purchased this exact model. Never again. I had problems from the beginning. It worked ok for a while, then started making noises. Eventually, it stopped working altogether. Total drive failure. Techsupport is impossible. Dead links for tech or customer service. Waiting on the phone for 40 minutes only to be disconnected. I finally got an RMA to retrun the product. I paid $30 for fedex shipment, only to recieve the product, unfixed a week and a half later. No explanation. No reply. No paperwork. And still no satisfaction or reply from the company. Stay away.. stay very far away
