Salba® is not treated chemically in any way prior to sowing, and there are NO pesticides applied at any time. Salba® is allowed to ripen naturally before harvesting and is not subjected to any chemical treatments post-harvest. Packed full of vital vitamins, minerals, fiber, and essential fatty acids, Salba® is ideal for boosting physical activity, increasing the nutrient intake of aging populations, on-the-go meals, adolescents and children, women’s health, weight loss, vegetarians, gluten free, and other specialty diets. Salba® has been investigated at the Risk Factor Modification Center, St.Michael's Hospital, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada, by Dr. Vladimir Vuksan, Professor of Endocrinology and Nutritional Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, in randomized, acute and long-term studies. In the acute study, Salba® reduced after-meal blood glucose and plasma insulin levels, compared to control. In a long-term trial (12 weeks), Salba® reduced blood pressure, the major cardiovascular risk factor in individuals with Type 2 Diabetes. In the same study, Salba® proved to be effective with respect to reduction in inflammation and coagulation factors. These unexpected clinical results indicate the great health potential of Salba® as a functional food, to be used as a novel agent in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Salba’s low flavor profile makes it an excellent addition to any food. Add 2 level tablespoons sprinkled on your cereal, blended in a smoothie, mixed in yogurt or baked in your favorite recipe. The possibilities are endless! Salba® really is “Nature’s Perfect Whole Food”™! Visit www.salbasmart.com for more information, benefits, recipes, and products made with Salba®. | | | Features: | |

Great source of plant-based Omega-3Jun 29, 2011
By Janis Taylor When I turned Vegan, I worried about finding a reliable source of Omega-3. Ground Salba is ultra convenient - just drop a spoonful into any dish and you've got an instant nutrition boost. I put it in my oatmeal every morning and can't even tell it's there.

EnjoyedOct 31, 2011
By Lisa I enjoyed the Salba much more so than flax seeds. It has a nice nutty taste and can be mixed well with oatmeal or eaten alone. I didn't find that it gave me more energy as some websites have purported, but knowing it is good for me is enough for me.

Good & NutritiousJul 31, 2008

I prefer the whole grain to the ground seed. When mixed with liquid (about 2 Tablespoons of Salba to 1 cup of liquid), it forms a gel. The whole grain has the consistency of tapioca pudding; the ground salba is a bit too gritty for me, even after it gels up. Whatever form one uses (ground or whole grain), Salba (chia seed) doesn't have much flavor of it's own, so it takes on the flavor of whatever I mix with it.
I do like that it has omega-3 (which is good for my heart) and fiber (which is good for my digestion).

this stuff is grossly over priced and from what I have read, some vendors are packaging Chia seed as Salba. For the price and results, hands down, go with the Chia seed-
