A Matter Of PreferenceMar 08, 2007
By FredG I like sardines, much to my wife's dismay. I can eat them right out of the can. However, skinless and boneless they have to be and that is becoming an expensive variety.
How nice it was, then, to find that Amazon is selling the Reese brand at very attractive prices. I've tried both the 3.75 and 4.375 oz cans, in olive oil of course--purchase 30 or 40 cans at a time--and have been quite well pleased.
I prefer the larger can. In my experience, the 4.375 is packed with smaller sardines that tend to have a more delicate taste. At least that was my opinion respecting those that are netted and packed in Morocco, as most sardines that I have been buying are.
That brings me to the single problem I encountered in a recent purchase of the 4.375 oz Reese product. While the web page for it called it out as a product of Morocco, what arrived was a product of Portugal. The box graphics as shown on the website was different, too, and the sardines were larger and firmer than those of Morocco.
Although, still tasteful and a great value, too, I prefer the Moroccan variety. It's that more delicate taste that I seek. For most and for me, as well, the product source is certainly a minor point, but I did call the issue to Amazon's attention.
Amazon is great when it comes to feedback and actually seeks it, but I do not know how my comments were ultimately dealt with. The website still shows the product as Moroccan and package graphics different than the packaging that I received.
Of course, the website includes info and pictures that Reese provides. Reese probably shipped the Portuguese variety without advising Amazon of the change. It could be that I will not know what is actually being shipped until I make my next purchase.

Be careful buying this product....You may not be getting what you paid for.Aug 29, 2008

We love sardines - skinless, boneless in olive oil. Having purchased quite a bit of grocery items from Amazon, we had no problem ordering these. And the price, particularly through the subscription service was terrific. So far so good.
Then the problems began, 2 total, one at a time, like a slow-motion film, unfolding. Here goes:
1) The 10 cans arrived, poorly packaged, and about 3 cans were badly dented. Rather than complain, we decided to open these first. They tasted, uh, extremely oily, the olive oil notwithstanding. We're rather fond of olive oil, but this.....ugh! Then we saw the labels: Reese Skinless & Boneless Filets Of Mackerel Sardines. I don't know what mackerel sardines are, but they tasted disgusting with that harsh, bluefish-like powerful oily flavor. Not what we ordered. Should have complained, but didn't for some reason. We donated them to a neighbor who likes bluefish, and cancelled the subscription.
Believing that was a simple human error we ordered another 10 cans, again with the subscription. Price is great, right?
2) We checked the labels - Reese Skinless and Boneless Sardines in Olive Oil - so far so good. Opened it up - full skins, all the bones. Definitely not skinless & boneless, and I'm not even going to taste to see if the oil is olive or not. Another neighbor got the benefit of this error - somebody who has teeth as powerful as the best garbage disposal, and has no problem eating fish scales let alone a little old sardine with skin. Plus he has no taste buds as he pours Tabasco sauce by the cupfuls over everything - blech! But that's a different story.
Be careful with this one - 2 strikes and I'm out. I'll get mine in the grocery store and pay a little more. But we continue to purchase many grocery products through Amazon at great prices, with great results.

Tasty FishJul 20, 2006
By R. Carter No need to pay more when Reese's are the same as pricier brands. Plus I found no tiny grit and no damaged sardines.
You'll avoid busting off the ring when opening the can by bending the ring so it touches the can rim and then pulling up.

Unsurpassed flavor and qualityDec 22, 2006

I have not found any sardines that have exceeded the pleasant flavor and texture of the Reese skinless and boneless sardines in olive oil. The cans open easily and consistently, in my opinion these sardines are my absolute choice for value and taste, second to none.

Inconsistent qualitySep 26, 2008
By Mom of 3 The first case I bought of these was pretty decent for the money. So I decided to buy more. The second pack of 10 was awful. They smelled awful and the olive oil was the same color as used motor oil. I threw them out and Amazon was kind enough to refund our money. I think I will go back to crown prince.
