4Great value on mixed nuts. Peanut ratio is typical.Apr 05, 2011
By J. Edwards
I buy a lot of nuts. I used to buy the generic brand at the local chain drugstore. These are as good or better than those and about a nickel cheaper per ounce (with subscribe and save discount). I find no difference in quality/freshness/composition between these and the Planters Mixed Nuts that come in 11-14 oz. containers. The shipping is very fast on my subscribe and save orders.

For those complaining about too many peanuts: I'm not sure what you think is too many. It says on the container "less than 50% peanuts" which, to me, means there will be 49.9% peanuts. It certainly doesn't appear to me that there is more than 50% peanuts. If you don't like peanuts you can purchase a more expensive variety of mixed nuts that contains no peanuts.

5Mixed Nuts - the Practical Alternative to Hunger.Jan 29, 2008
By Scott Styles
No time to eat? Bulk mixed nuts to the rescue. Keep one can by the computer at work, another at home. Save money and time by avoiding the need to go out or raid the vending machine.

There is a fair balance of peanuts with the fancy nuts - cashews, almonds, pecans, hazelnuts, and brazil nuts.

3Should be 4.5 starsAug 08, 2008
By JG
I had previously said that these were not very fresh on here, hence the 3 stars. I couldn't resist the value of these though, so I have since ordered several more, and they've all been very good and in some cases excellent. Once in a while you'll get a hazelnut or brazil nut that tastes a little off, but I think there's no way they can control for that and the vast majority are fine. I average 1/3 my calories from mixed nuts, and I certainly could not do that if these weren't both great tasting and a great value. When amazon ran out of these in Oct '08, I scoured the net and couldn't find anyone with a deal that came even close to this price, though I have since found that the local *ams club is cheaper.

As per the health benefits of mixed nuts, the FDA now agrees that one ounce or more a day can help lower the risk of heart disease. Anecdotally, my cholesterol has dropped 7 points since replacing a lot of the saturated fats in my diet with mixed nuts, though I also started drinking wine so this is hardly a controlled experiment. Peanuts contain more resveratrol than grapes, and 2 oz of peanuts contains about the same resveratrol as a glass of red wine.

Lastly, to make these mixed nuts taste even better, mix in a few macadamias (say, at a ratio of 1 oz macadamias : 4-5 oz mixed nuts). As of Nov. '08, the cheapest brand of quality macadamias I could find on Amazon or the net for that matter is Now Foods Macadamia nuts, but the cheapest seller of these varies, so I'm not including a product link.

5Yummy and plentifulJan 07, 2012
By L. Hamilton
What's to say about Planters blue cans of mixed nuts? Of course they're delicious and varied and good for you (in moderation.) The sea salt is just a marketing thing, but salted nuts do taste better. For the price, these two huge tins cannot be beat.
