No way this can cure distemper, but it may have helped my dogJan 24, 2011
By Teensyfeet A little background:My 3 month old puppy was diagnosed with distemper based on a blood test plus throat and eye swabs. I took her to the vet to use Dr. Sears method [...] She was already exhibiting neurological symptoms (she had a tic and it looked like she was saying yes to everything) and 4 days later I decided to take her back for the spinal tap. Within 3 days of the tap she started eating her regular amount. She hadn't been eating, she never lost the ability to walk nor did she have diarrhea like most dogs. I'm thankful she never got to the point of seizures. On to the product: I would never recommend anything but Dr. Sears method for treating distemper. Medication only treats symptoms while your body does the fighting. The product itself I used on my dog with the acute dosage. After about a month of the spinal tap I started her on it using the 3X a day dose. She actually likes the taste very much. I did notice that her mucus subsided completely after about a week of using it. It says on the bottle not to feed it more than 21 days, that will be three days from now. For a puppy it seems that the bottle just lasts 21 days if fed the pinch amounts. However, my puppy is a big girl (33 lbs at 4 months) and about one week ago I started giving her a half capful. It seems to help alleviate bronchial symptoms and it says on the bottle that it helps relieve diarrhea, but that was never one of her symptoms. Aside from the tic you can't tell she had distemper.
I owe my dog's life to this productMar 28, 2012
By rj About a month ago I took my 3 month old puppy Watson to the vet. He had a alot of goop in his eyes and mouth, he wouldn't eat or drink, and he was having mild tremors along with a high fever. The vet told me he had distemper and told me it was hopeless and he'd die a slow misserable death. I made an appointment to have him put to sleep for the next day. When I got home I did some research on distemper and this product kept coming up. I had it overnighted and within a few hours of giving it to him the fever was gone and he started to eat a little on his own. I gave him antibiotics, vitamins, and a homemade dog food consisting of long grain rice, green beans, and ground turkey meat,it's the same diet I feed my 13yr old diabetic dog...and it worked. It's been a month and Watson is happier than ever, he doesn't have any symptoms of the distemper. I highly recomend this product. It worked for Watson and he wouldn't be here with me if it wasn't for PetAlive. I am very thankful that this product has given me my puppy's happiness and life back.

Would I use this remedy and NOT take my dog to the doctor if he got sick? Probably notFeb 01, 2009

I ordered one of these about one year ago because I did not want my puppies to ever get distemper or viral infections. Since the product is sold over the counter, my expectation was that it would, in fact, come with some effective directions on how to use it and when to use it. The following shows what you get for your order.
I learned from the little label on the bottle - and ALL I got was the little bottle - that there was no gluten mixed into 20g worth of little granules and that there were no artificial colors or preservatives used. But you do get some lactose and 2 weeds commonly found in my backyard: echinacea purpurea (Eastern purple coneflower) and bryonia (Briony, Bryonie, Bryony).
There is NO EVIDENCE, anywhere provided that this remedy is, in fact, effective. I would NOT risk my dog's life by experimenting with some herbal remedy if my dog got sick.
The main ingredient seems to be 'Distemperinum C-30' (snake oil?) but it's not said in what quantity or concentration. A Google search shows little information on what this might be and, it seems, all top hits were originating from the makers of this product or from fellow homeopathic supporters. I saw no hard data showing how or why this ingredient would, in fact, 'immunize' the dog against a virus. We learn that everything is manufactured according to 'the highest pharmaceutical standards', whatever that means and that the ingredients were 'especially formulated' by a Registered Clinical... PSYCHOLOGIST(?).
The recommended dosage is using the 'pinch' as the unit of measure - one pinch for small dogs, 2 pinches for large dogs. Research shows that the pinch is usually 1/2 gram so one bottle gets you 40 pinches.
The recommended treatment consists of administering one/two pinches by 'sprinkling' them into the dog's mouth HOURLY until the symptoms go away, then keep sprinkling 3 times per day, daily, for the next 21 days. If you have a large dog, this would add up to... 4-5 bottles? And it's doubtful that the treatment is, in fact, effective to any measurable degree.
Speaking for myself, I would not trust my dogs' health with this product. The moment I detect distemper in them, I am on my way to the vet because, when it comes to a viral infection, I trust a vet more than I do a clinical psychologist. As for the $40 I spent on this little bottle... you win some, you lose some. In this case, I lost.
