Oskri Cashew Bar - My New Favorite Healthy SnackApr 20, 2010
By Mark
"Technology, Music and Movies"
The Oskri Cashew Bars (Pack of 20) has a good taste and a short list of ingredients. I only wish the list price was a little bit lower. The taste is very similar to that of the Nature Valley Fruit & Nut Chewy Trail Mix Bars. However, this product is a lot softer to chew than those bars.
The product is delicious but somewhat mislabeled. It should really be called a "cranberry cashew bar" because the over-riding flavor is that of sweetened cranberries. As long as you like sweetened cranberries, that's ok. While the proportion of ingredients listed on the product page is accurate, there is one minor detail that may account for this. The ingredient listed here as "cranberries - 13%" is listed on the product as "dried cranberries" which may affect the volume of cranberries in the mix since they were added to the bars after being dried.
There's another version with more fiber and less sugar per serving which I didn't try yet, the Oskri Fiber Bar, Cashews and Cranberries. I was scared away by some flavor complaints regarding that product. I'm totally happy with this version so far.
TEXTURE & PACKAGING
The bars have a soft and chewy texture akin to a quaker oats granola bar. The nuts and seeds in the bar are soft, maybe due to the honey and rice syrup that holds the bars together. They only list 4% crisp rice in the contents, but perhaps that is by weight and not by volume. There seems to be a lot of rice in these bars.
The only way the bar would potentially be hard is if the seal on the plastic packaging was compromised and the bars went stale. The plastic wrappers are very thin and I could see them easily getting punctured. So if any of your bars are super hard, there is something wrong with your package and I recommend you ask for a replacement box.
However, the bars come in a sturdy cardboard box that could be used as a display case if you so desire.
DIETARY CONSIDERATIONS
For those with dietary restrictions, the display box lists the product to be "Halal, Vegetarian & Kosher." It's also gluten free.
Here is some serving size information. As you can see, the criticism that these bars are high in sugar is unfortunately accurate. Though relatively speaking, it's very difficult to find any fruit bars that are not high in sugar. Still, if you are a diabetic you will want to keep this information in mind. Over one third of the carbohydrates in these bars come from sugar.

CONCLUSION
This is a tasty bar that makes it easier to get some fruit and nuts on the go. It contains more sugar and less fiber than I would like. Thicker wrappers and a lower price would have been nice, but given the ingredients and the taste I am willing to pay the premium.
Enjoy.

YUM!Oct 18, 2009
By greenchic I purchased this because it sounded tasty, not for any nutritional benefits. Boy, was it tasty! Perfectly fresh and chewy. Awesome combination of cashews, cranberries, pumpkin seeds, and the sweet coating...not too sweet or too salty. The only problem was that I ate through the pack of 20 way more quickly than I should have!

pretty goodFeb 16, 2010
By Team Samber I'd go for 3.5, but not an option. I love this brand. I think i like the flat sesame wafers better. The flavor was good not great, but good healthy fuel.
i think they should really work on using different sugars, like agave, the kind they use is really high in glycemic index and the grams of sugar per bar is a little much.

Cashew bar: healthy natural snackMar 26, 2011

"JOKI"
I ordered the cashew variety and was pleasantly surprised with the bar. It is smaller than I thought it would be but it is nutrient dense at 43 grams which is more than most granola bars (35g). The bar is thicker rather than long, a squarish rectangle in shape. Quarter pieces and halves of the nut are embedded throughout the bar and provide a firm texture to each bite. Interspersed with the cashew nuts are pumpkin seeds, 4-5 cranberries and a sprinkling of grains such as buckwheat which lends a more exotic flavor to the Oskiri. I imagine that those who are not used to buckwheat may not enjoy the bars for although this flavor is not overpowering, for many who are unused to the grain, the flavor is distinguishable and more pronounced than a grain like oats. Taste-wise, I am happy that these are not too sweet. The syrup acts as a binding agent and while I can imagine some stickiness in the summer, the overall effect is a crunchy (not potato chip crispy) satisfying treat. I think that I may order these again as they are a good snack to have on hand esp. for those who have sensitivities to many of the added preservatives or extra fiber (think inulin, chicory extract) that many other brands are increasingly adding to their products. (Oh and no added salt according to package so am unclear why the sodium level is 5%).

Delicious multi-grain and nut bar!Jan 02, 2011
By JAM I ordered these bars looking for something to serve as a healthy breakfast on the go -- I am so glad I did! These bars are different than any I have tried before. The biggest difference is the texture. So many bars compact the ingredients into a dense bar that makes individual ingredients unrecognizable. The Oskri bar has a looser texture with all of the individuals grains, nuts, and fruits easy to spot. There is something psychologically positive that I love about seeing actual 'whole grains' in whole grain food. The cashews are plentiful and give the bar a rich flavor while the rice syrup provides plenty of sweetness. I have these bars on auto order and eat them every day of the week.
