Better than CheetosFeb 08, 2010
By CGScammell Edit 15 June 2010: I wrote this review for Pirate's Booty Aged White Cheddar and rice puffs, not these organic corn tortilla chips. Somehow my review ended up here after a while, although Pirate's Booty was my original review.Pirate's Booty, Aged White Cheddar, 4-Ounce Bags (Pack of 12)
I'm not sure if these corn-rice puffs are any healthier than Cheetos, but they sure do taste better than Cheetos. They aren't as salty and don't crumble into bright orange flakes in your hands. You can eat this hull-less popcorn-like snack in the office and still remain socially acceptable...as long as you share.
Each bag comes in four-ounce bags yielding four servings at 130 calories each with 45 calories from fat. Per gram that translates to nine calories of fat, 4 calories of carbs and 4 calories of protein. These are not organic ingredients, but they are all natural. The cheese, according to the company, is animal rennent free and the products are gluten-free, trans fat free, nut-free and kosher.
Ingredients are as follows: corn meal, rice and one of the following--sunflower, expeller pressed canola or corn oil, aged cheddar cheese, whey and buttermilk. In bold it reminds eaters that this product CONTAINS DAIRY INGREDIENTS. Not even Cheetos can make that claim.
Per serving this contains 140mg of cholesterol, 19g of carbs.
My dogs enjoy these snacks, too, and I must be careful to store these safely away from their counter-surfing noses.
My one complaint about this product is that they grow stale fast. I opened a bag two hours ago and when I reached into the bag for a handful of these puffs, the puffs had already lost their freshness.
The bag does not reveal where this product is made, only that they are "distributed by Robert's American Gourmet in Seacliff, NY."
