Textured Toy Protein HunksApr 21, 2010
By Bartok Kinski
"A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything."
This highly nutritious yet bland meat substitute, is processed from defatted soy flour which contains more than 42 Percent protein and 21 Percent total dietary fiber. So I think that means you can poop better.
Eating meat gives me hemorrhoids. Chunks are unflavored so soak them in chicken broth or Soy sauce.
(-) There is a bible quote on this NOW Foods Textured Soy Protein Chunks, which I found stupid. Genesis 1:29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food."

yummm ...Apr 22, 2010
By digitalsiren This was a great bargain in my opinion. I soak mine for about a half hour or so in water (it can steep longer if needed) and fry it up. Gives it a nice "fried chicken" texture. Tomorrow, I am considering trying some with some Shake 'n Bake for the first time ... we'll see how that goes. I'm excited to see what othed recipes I can use it in.
So Meaty, People Don't Believe MeApr 24, 2012
By sewbaby I couldn't find large chunk TVP locally and turned to Amazon. This stuff is AMAZING. My friends are all fooled because of the insanely meaty texture. The TVP doesn't taste like anything but will take on the flavors of the food being cooked with it. Ships fast and great value for the pack of eight. You really only need about a cup her food item since they grow in size with liquid.
Good but I've had better TVPApr 15, 2012

My prob is that the texture is a little....spongy. Weirds me out. Butt he price is sure right for TVP. However, after 30 hours in a stew/soup/sauce the texture is much better, more like meat.
First Attempt, Success! Very Good...Dec 11, 2011
By Gary Lewis Well
First off it arrived in perfect condition and with excellent timing.
I did approximately 1/4 a bag in 2 cups of chicken broth that I had added kelp powder, fresh ground garlic, chili paste, and some of that fake salt known as potassium chloride. To speed up the process I threw it in the microwave on high for about a minute. Gave it a stir then gave it another minute. Seems to soak up a lot quicker that way.
Used my big Teflon chicken frying pan. Dropped in enough olive oil to coat the bottom. Then added about 2 Tablespoons of my own bright red sesame fire oil.
Fried the stuff around until the outsides were crispy. Kept the leftover soaking broth and did some dried Portabello mushrooms and diced white onions. Herded the soy chunks to one side of the pan, put the mushrooms ect. in on the side. Turned them once then put 3 extra large eggs sunny side up style on top. Made a rather incredible breakfast this morning.
Tried eating a couple of raw dry cubes right out of the package. Not too bad. Almost zero taste but always seems to maintain a decent texture.
From now on this will always have a place on my pantry shelf. Seems like it would have a good storage life. I can see how it can be used for several other different and wonderful things.
And I like it.
G.
