Alpha Lipoic AcidAug 30, 2011

Well packaged, clean and effective. My only concern is that the ALA does cause a similar sensation as acid reflux if it is exposed to the esophagus, and these capsules need to be thoroughly washed down, or followed with food.

ala for diabeticsNov 02, 2008
By James E. Marceau

I am a diabetic, and take ala for neouropathy. It works wonders for diabetics to kill the pain of neourapathy. I havent lost 1 extra hair in the 3 years i have taken this medicine. I started off with 600mg twice a day for the first 90 days, and then switched to 100mg in the am, and 200 mg in the noon hour, and 200mg in the evening. Hair loss has not occured, nor ANY SIDE EFFECTS AT ALL!.I don't know about healthy folks, but diabetics need this medicine at some time in their life.

Gave me heartburnApr 07, 2011
By Pamela Lund

This brand and product are high quality and a good value. But, taking ALA gave me terrible heartburn which I have never had before in my life. No matter whether I took it on an empty stomach or with food, I would end up with heartburn for hours. Tums would barely make a dent it was so bad. So, if you have any concerns with heartburn I wouldn't take ALA unless you need to.

ALA reviewJul 22, 2011
By MikeDoc I use this product as a means to combat insulin resistance. It's hard to say whether it works directly in that manner because there is only anecdotal evidence to support this. I like using the product though, I think for the price and the reported effects, it's worth it for me.

REALLY GOOD STUFF AND IN LARGE SAFE DOSESApr 06, 2006

SUBTLE - SAFE . . . . . . ------ BUT POTENT ANTI-OXIDANT
IN A NUTSHELL: RARE MEDICINAL PRODUCT THAT HAS NOTHING GOING AGAINST ITS USE
Most products that have a potent effect on the human body also cause negative externalities that physicians call, SIDE-EFFECTS. This Alpha Lipoic Acid in 250 Mg capsules, carries with it many benefits, yet few if any risks, side-effects, harmful interactions or toxicity. It is a mega-dose WITHOUT a mega-risk!
WHAT IT IS! [UNDER-CONSTRUCTION]
Alpha lipoic acid is a vitamin-like antioxidant. It is called a "universal antioxidant" because it is both fat and water soluble. Alpha Lipoic Acid can be made within the human body and is found in a few foods, such as, yeast and liver.
Perhaps of even more importance, is Alpha Lipoic Acid's ability to regenerate other antioxidants back to their active states. Among these, are Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Co-enzyme Q10 and Glutathione, to name a few.
I generally take 3-4, 100 mg. capsules per day, with L-Carnitine, and with other anti-oxidants. Before I began taking the smaller capsules, I took these 250 mg. doses 1-2 times per day, when I took L-Carnitine. Now, that I take 3-4 L-Carnitine per day I have switched to 100 mg. doses to reach the serum level goals, which are still the same. Now, is a terrific brand and is about the several that I use exclusively based on experience. When I take this product in 100 mg. doses I usually purchase the Swanson brand. Swanson's products have all been proven through their use, to me over time, and they're generally included in their 2 for 1 promotions making the deal to good to pass up.
