Really good bouillon. Yeast free too!May 03, 2010
By Bufster3 Really delicious vegetarian bouillon, low sodium and yeast free! This is the only yeast free bouillon I have been able to find. I add this to many different dishes and it adds wonderful savory flavor. Marigold also makes a regular sodium variety too which Amazon also sells.

This is it!Aug 11, 2010
By E. Tracy My quest for a good vegetarian bouillon has ended! The bouillon smells great and I love that it is in powder form! It does give a nice taste to my soups and I will (finally!) no longer make vegetable stock from scratch. As an FYI, this is the brand of bouillon that several Bristish cookbooks refer to, like The Rose Bakery Cookbook or Ottolenghi.

This is my favorite bouillon, and I am surprised at its strength!
I was having troubles digesting Rapunzel bouillon cubes, which used to be my favorite... better than bouillon was great, but didn't have the rounded flavor....
This Marigold stuff is definitely the best, and has a very nice background of herbs and spices that makes it truly delicious. I found reference to it in the Plenty cookbook. Reading the label, I am surprised that they include nutmeg and lovage.. it really is a nice blend for all my vegan soups, even my Thai basil coconut soup.
The only think you should know if you are worried about salt is that it has 459 mg per serving (4.5g), and it does pack a punch. Flavor-wise, you really get a nice kick with this stuff, so you don't need to much, but it is savory and salty, so just be aware.

I was a bit concerned when I first opened one of these - the powder really doesn't smell very good. Once it's dissolved in water, however, it smells great and has a really nice, savory flavor. There's a hint of mint to it that I don't particularly care for (I believe it's the lovage). I add quite a bit of really good Italian herb mix to it then put it back in the can to bring to work. It makes a nice afternoon snack. The lid seals well and it stays fresh for a long time.
