quite edibleMay 18, 2009
By S. Chandrasekar For those that can't tell by my long south indian name, I grew up eating pongal. No, this isn't as good as Pongal made at home. No, I wouldn't pay $10 to eat this at a restaurant. But for less than $2, this pongal is a great deal. MTR uses a bit too much black pepper for my taste, but it isn't overpowering.
In comparison to the frozen/pre-made meals available at most supermarkets, this MTR meal is vastly superior. And if you have a microwave at work, this is the cheapest, easiest, 300 calorie Indian lunch you can buy.

Doesn't taste packagedSep 25, 2010
By brazzabuzz One of the problems of buying pre-packaged food is that it, well, tastes like it was pre-packaged. This does not taste artificial, at all. There is a subtle spicy flavor. An excellent change from the usual leftovers I eat every day. I add Uncle Ben's Ready Rice to it to make it go a little further. Recommend it!

GreatApr 29, 2008
By Marie C. Graham Use a pouch of this and a pouch of MTR lemon rice. Microwave for 2 mins, fluff then microwave for 2 mins more. Great with salmon. I could not cook lentils this good (nor would I spend the amount of time needed) Mildly spicy.
Excellent instant foodJul 23, 2010

PONGAL BY MTR INDIAN FOODS IS A VERY MILD, MEDIUM TYPE MEAL TO BE EATEN WITH OTHER PORTIONS OR EVEN JUST BREAD. I EAT THE PONGAL WITH A PACKET OF BISIBELEBATH. BISIBELEBATH ALSO GOES WELL WITH SHAHI PANEER
A GREAT COMBO IVE TRIED IS BOILING UP SOME POTATOES AND EATING THEM WITH BHINDI MASALA AND SHAHI PANEER. MTR IS GREAT, IF YOU'VE NEVER HAD TRUE AUTHENTIC (NORTH, SOUTH, TAMIL, MUMBAI STYLE, CHENNAI DELIGHT) INDIAN FOOD, THEN MTR IS THE BEST FOR YOU! IF YOU ARE INTELLIGENT YOU HAVE CAUGHT ON TO WHAT IM SAYING, BUT, IF YOU STILL HAVE NEVER HAD TRUE AUTHENTIC, INDIAN COOKED INDIAN FOOD, THEN MTR IS THE WAY TO GO, I GUARANTEE IT, I LOVE THEIR PRODUCTS, BECAUSE THEY TASTE GREAT, NOT EXPENSIVE AND VEGETARIAN!
