Description:

Basmati means "Queen of Fragrance" - Characterized by superfine kernels, exquisite aroma, great taste, silky texture, delicate curvature and linear kernel elongation, BASMATI is considered to be the rice of the connoisseurs. Aroma of BASMATI imparts its novel characteristics that is unmatched by any other grain elsewhere in the world. BASMATI rice has inherent but subtle nuttiness that really tastes good. It is delicious by itself !! As BASMATI tastes so delicious all by itself, no additional butter is necessary, allowing you to savor wonderful dishes and save fat calories at the same time. The grain has been cultivated at the base of Himalayan range in India and Pakistan for thousands of years, in the areas where the Yamuna and Sutluj rivers flow. Basmati originated in Punjab region of undivided India which now spans areas of both India and Pakistan. This explains why it’s only grown in these two countries and viewed as their cultural heritage. Top quality basmati is primarily grown in the Karnal (known as the "rice bowl of India"), Kurukshetra, Panipat and Ambala regions of Haryana in India and Kalar district in Pakistan. Basmati also has some spiritual or physical aspects, according to the ancient practice of "Ayurveda." Ayurveda is a method of healthy living which includes concepts of mental, physical, social and spiritual harmony. According to ayurveda, basmati is saatvic or pure and therefore, beneficial for the body and easy to digest. It is considered an excellent remedy for balancing your vata (metabolism) and pitta (energy production). By the way, ayurveda practice means avoiding instant or pre-cooked rice because it has less prana (life force) in it. Our Rice Plant is completely audited and Approved by “CSCC” a global provider of socially responsible supply chain consulting services. 1Bug infested!Nov 30, 2010

I opened this rice to find it infested with small black bugs. Worse yet, they were alive! I won't be buying this brand again!

5Basmati rice is bestApr 23, 2010
By L. Robinson
I'm not married to any particular merchant or brand of basmati rice -- I just figure out the price per pound including shipping. This time around, Laziz had the lowest price at $1.692 per pound, using Amazon Prime free shipping. I buy 20 to 25 lbs at a time, which really cuts the price down.

As for basmati rice in general, it's a great rice -- holds its shape, and has a wonderful delicate nutty flavor and aroma. Once you've had basmati rice, you'll never buy the crap they sell in the grocery store again. It improves everything you eat rice with.

5Delicious and FlavorfulMay 23, 2009
By Tea Lover Mommy
This Basmati Rice was delecious with excellent nutty flavor. A nice compliment to any main course or Indian Curry dish. One recommendation - do not over cook the rice and just use twice the amount of water as Rice. Laziz Basmati Rice, 10-lbs Bag

3Not so good.Aug 15, 2010
By Le Hoan Nha "Coffee madness"
The rice arrived in a paper bag and has strange smell even after I washed it. I found the same Basmati rice at Same club was $10 for 15 pounds.

2Not so goodJul 08, 2009

Just not as flavorful as other Basmatis I have tried. I'm hoping to have rice delivered via Amazon's subscribe-and-save so I'll try a different brand when this bag runs out.
