5A tasty complete meal.Oct 28, 2007
By Kevin Septor
Back in July I purchased this six pack as part of a 72 hour emergency kit I was putting together. The reason I'm back here today is because the test meal I made was delicious and I want to eat another one without depleting my stockpile. Alas, Amazon doesn't have it in stock at the moment. :(

There are four big meatballs in the spaghetti and there was no oily/fatty orange residue like you may find in Chef Boyardee canned spaghetti. The food had a surprisingly sweet taste, perhaps overly so if you're used to a zesty pasta sauce.

Also as part of my kit I picked up a Chef 5 Minute Meals Beef Stroganoff with Noodles (Pack of 6), however I have no desire to buy another one of those.

I think the La Briute system wins over the Chef 5 Minute Meals system because it tastes better, has more food (soup + cookies), and includes a wet nap. Although the 5 minute meal system was easier to use (pour on the water, shove it back in the box) it didn't get the food as hot as la briute presumably because you don't put the food in a bag and then the bag in the box. It was a bit of a race with the La Briute to get everything set before the heat activated, but it's not unmanageable.

I've uploaded some product images so you can see what you actually get and what the food looks like. Give this product a shot for sure if you're looking for a heavier but tastier MRE replacement.

5Really good, kosher, and easy to prepare!Dec 10, 2006
By Michael A. Behr "mabehr"
I'm really impressed. This was pretty easy to prepare, and tasty. It's not haute cuisine by any stretch, but WAY better than most frozen dinners. Surprisingly low in sodium, pretty low in calories (390 for the meal, 70 for the soup, and 150 for the cookies... which I tried to resist, but come on, they're cookies!), these are great for people who want kosher food while travelling, or just want some level of decently healthy food that they don't need utilities to prepare.

These will become a fixture of my business travel.

3Works but...Jun 28, 2007

Does what it's supposed to and it's good for a quick meal on the go but quality of the entree is a bit less than Chef boyardee.

3it's fair at best; couldn't decide 2 or 3Nov 03, 2010

it was with eager anticipation that i had my first laBriute meal in 4 years - I was told that this was the best! first, the directions are confusing at best - the folding , cutting and taping are not at all clear. When i finally got it working and heated my Meatballs and spaghetti, i pealed back the wrapper and got a vague smell of kennel ration dog food that almost made me terminate my culinary experience. I then compared the congealed lump of meat, sauce and spaghetti i was looking at to the picture on the box - hmmm.... didn't look much like it; however, after taking a few small bites, the meatballs were quite edible and the pasta wasn't bad. This was at 8:00pm; at 4:15 AM i awoke with wicked heartburn - 4 hours later I still have it and i'm having pasta burps... yuk!!

summary - confusing directions
initial nasty smell
not visually appealing
the food wasn't bad
heartburn was nasty

i guess in a pinch i would eat one, but not after 5:00pm!

This is La Briute's best meal. Very good in a pinch but a little on the pricey side for what you are getting. Nevertheless, I always try to have a couple in my bags when traveling - just in case!
