The Best of the Kay's Naturals Snacks -- But Not Better Than Whole/Real FoodJan 08, 2012
By K. J. Simon As with all Kay's snacks, what appears to be a single serving bag is really considered 2 servings per the nutrition label, so be sure to double all the sodium, fat and simple sugars as well as the protein content if you're planning on eating the whole bag. It's difficult NOT to eat a whole bag of what traditionally is a single serving size snack bag.
Of all the Kay's snacks, this one was the one I liked most, and as the other reviewer noted, it does have a "kick", but not excessive IMHO. None of the Kay's snacks were as good as a bowl of air popped popcorn, however, so be prepared to be disappointed in the product line as a whole. As I sampled a number of their products, sawdust frequently came to mind.
I know, you need your protein so your hair won't fall out. But these highly processed, artificial tasting snack foods will never replace the nutrition of whole foods with their unaltered vitamins, minerals, fiber, micro-nutrients and of course -- taste! Do your research, talk to your dietician and find the whole foods that truly nourish your body.
Why do doctor's offices sell these? Maybe because it provides patients trying to loose weight something "quick" that gives the illusion of being healthy (why else would they be sold in a doctor's office?) and it's easier than spending the amount of time needed with patients teaching them about healthy, whole foods. Don't forget the extra profit center a "nutrition shop" at the doctor's office generates for the practice.
Skip Kay's Naturals and get to know your local farmer's market and the people in your community who raise "REAL" food. You won't be disappointed.
