Heat, but no flavor.Feb 19, 2009
By Riki I love Kashi products, but this one was a big disappointment. It had the heat, as expected from the title, but there was little 'flavor' to the dish. There were not enough red beans and corn to add to the flavor or texture of the product. Red pepper and cilantro were listed on the label, but were completely unnoticeable under the chili pepper heat. It required a lot of 'doctoring' to bump up the taste: garlic and onions, salt, diced tomatoes, as well as just plain more of the vegetable components listed on the label.
All is not lost if you're willing to put more effort into it than heat-n-eat. I love the other 2 flavors. The curry is great straight out of the bag, but I tend to add raisins, toasted pine nuts and spring onions to that one as well. The plain version is just a base and can support any number of spices and herbs to compliment your meal.
Past experience has taught me to add only the minimum recommended amount of water. I heat it up using the microwave, and the Kashi grains come out chewy and tender. Any more than 1Tbsp of water per package, and you end up with complete mush.
If you're making it on the stovetop, I would recommend briefly steaming the ingredients, rather like couscous, and adding no water at all. The small amount of water required to keep the product chewy will cause it to burn in a pan over direct heat.

Really disappointingJan 19, 2009
By Samantha G This product is terrible. I usually love Kashi products, but this is just terrible. The directions say to add two tablespoons of water, and just heat up in a pot. This makes it turn into a gummy mess. It looks unappealing, the texture was kind of hard and gummy, and the taste was OK, but I certainly could make better rice from scratch. This was so bad that the other half of the rice sat in my fridge uneaten for a week.

Flavorful and Easy to MakeJan 26, 2009
By Cynthia Nunez I don't cook. Time is very limited for me. It takes about 1 minute to heat this in the microwave while in it's pouch and it contains two servings. It goes great with a salad. I purchased this from a supermarket. It was much cheaper there. I wonder why the price is so high here.
Kashi 7 whole grain pilaf-"Fiery Fiesta"Oct 07, 2009
By Jerry L. Reed This new product from Kashi suits me to a tee. Early in 2008 I was on the verge of going overseas for an Adult Stem Cell medical procedure due to my uncontrolled diabetes. I did three things to fight against the trip. #1 took Resveratrol #2 Stared eating Kashi foods at all meals be it ceral, pizza, frozen foods, Etc. and then I found this new product. #3 found Kitchens of India foods. I have reduced my A1c blood test from 9.8% down to 7.8% in three months and hope it is lower when we test again. I lost 20 pounds, which helps the blood sugars and reviewed my eating with a nutritionist at the VA. He told me that Kashi was right on track as the sugars are 1/3 or less of the total Carbs per meal/serving and with all three changes I have now certainly put off any trip for the medical procedure. Not only does Fiery Fiesta taste "GREAT" it is good for you as well. Try it you won't go back to the old way of eating
