1Bad value and service from IomegaFeb 19, 2009
By Walter Jeffries "Walter"
I bought two of the 1T drives just like this one. They are both loud. Then the fans turn on and they get a lot louder. Intolerably loud. I would never buy them again for that reason alone. But it gets worse.

One of the drives started to fail after about 10 months. I managed to get my data off. Reformat. The drive failed again. The warrantee is one year. I contacted Iomega via their web site, typed in the drive serial number and it said my drive was not covered by a warrantee. What! I contacted Iomega and provided them with the emailed receipts from Amazon. Iomega wrote me back saying that was insufficient proof of purchase and they would not honor the warrantee.

Do not buy from Iomega.
If I could I would give them zero starts.
Beware of Iomega.

1It's noisy when turned, which sounds like a drive dying!Nov 15, 2008
By Olpdog
I purchased this from Amazon because of the great price that was temporarily offered. It arrived and was making a lot of noise when turned on. I thought it might just be something that was normal with this drive. I checked the transfer speeds and everything seemed to be working great. This crackling noise that occurred when the drive was turned on continued to concern me as I have heard that same sound just prior to a drive crashing. I contacted Iomega and they agreed that the sound was that of a drive failing. They were great and agreed to send a replacement as soon as I sent them the broken drive. They got it, then sent me a replacement. The replacement drive arrived quickly, but there was immediate concern as it was a "reman" model. This concerned me as I had purchased a new model. I hooked up the replacement to my pc and it made terrible noises when turned on. I attempted to transfer some data and it reached a peak of 3.5 mb/sec. The model I sent back was over 8 mb/sec, as are the numerous other external drives I have on my pc. I have just contacted Iomega again, and I guess I will see what they say. Be cautious purchasing this, as I have had 2 and both were DOA.

1NoisyNov 03, 2008

The fan on this hard drive was so noisy that I had to return it. Only buy it if you can put it somewhere out of earshot.

1Don't risk putting your precious data on this piece of junkJul 27, 2009
By Y. Kapadia
I bought this hard drive because Amazon was offering a terrific deal on it - more than $150 less than comparable drives. This hard drive is not meant for continuous operation beyond 30-60 minutes... it starts making a large humming noise. You have to switch it off for a few hours. Then the humming noise goes away but returns again if used continuously over 30-60 minutes. I tried two units thinking the piece I may have received was a one off defective unit.... both units had the same problem. Would you risk your precious data on such a drive?

My Symantec and Western Digital hard drives have been running 24x7 for over 3 years without any problems.

52 TB Iomega Desktop HardriveOct 17, 2008
By A. Caldwell
Good solid construction, performs well and a great price. It looks very good. I plugged it in and away it went. 2 TB of storage for $148.99. I think I got a special price as I only paid US $148.99 for a new unit plus $5.49 for 2nd day delivery. It arrived on time. Now unit is $304.00.

Great buy!! Thanks Amazon
