Nice Package, Performance Uncertain (Updated)Feb 11, 2009
By Joseph Brown UPDATE 4/1/09: The second attempt at a full-bootable backup using Iomega software worked flawlessly, with the backup copies of both C: and D: (under Vista) showing exact matches. Now I am willing to rate this drive at 4 stars, but not 5, due to lousy Iomega customer service, as discussed beloe.
Bought this drive about a month ago. I downloaded the Iomega NeverDown software that claims to make a bootable copy of your hard drive to the Iomega. I ran a complete copy (quite fast as expected for eSATA), but I don't know if it worked. First, I noticed it copied (almost) exactly the number of bytes on my Windows Vista machine's D:(recovery) drive partition. However, the destination volume (on the Iomega drive) content from backing up my C:(user) drive partition was only 17 Gb from a 65 Gb source. Concerned, I emailed Iomega customer support. It turns out Iomega has no customer support ("due to increased costs of doing business"), unless you fax or email (scan) them your customer receipt proving your unit is under warranty. And, they will not accept a serial number or purchase date. In essence, you are on your own for any questions. I still have not resolved this problem, but I am unwilling to take the final step in NeverDown, which is to try to boot my computer off the Iomega drive, without resolution of this concern. Overall, quite unsatisfied, due only to lack of Iomega customer support.
