5Easy and reliableJan 27, 2008
By Robert S. Becker
I purchased this drive to run Time Machine on a PowerMac G5. The cost of the drive seemed ridiculously low, given the variety of connections that it supports (I'm using Firewire 800) and its large storage capacity. Installation was a breeze: just attach and follow a couple of onscreen instructions. The drive sits about 2 feet from the computer, and is so quiet that I never notice it's there. This is my second Iomega storage device. The first was a StorCenter we use as a NAS server. I couldn't be more satisfied with the Iomega brand.

5Couldn't be easierMar 06, 2008

If you have a mac, backing up does not get easier. The time machine software that comes with leopard is great. No user input needed, and it automatically keeps a snapshot of your computer continuously. All I did was plug it in to the firewire 800 port, answer a couple of input screens, and I was off. This is how backing up should be. One of the reviewers complained it was noisy, and you do hear it. But it's not distracting. All in all a really great product, so far.

4great for Time Machine, kinda loudMar 18, 2008
By J. Greene
I've partitioned half of this drive for Time Machine and the other half for general storage. I've had this drive over a month now and I'm very happy with it. The only real complaint I have is that it doesn't automatically turn off or go to 'sleep' when I unplug it from my Macbook pro. The fan stays on and I have to manually reach around the back to turn it off. It's also not a very quiet drive. For my use this is fine, but if you need some extra storage in you recording studio, you may want to think about one that is quieter. I count off 1 star for that.

1Noisy drive, bad customer service.Jan 18, 2008
By E. Smith
I bought this because of reviews stating it was quiet. It wasn't. The clicking during access was too loud. I sent the drive back to Iomega with an RMA and after they've had the returned drive for 2 weeks. I've called and emailed and they keep claiming they will send a replacement, but still no drive. I asked who the manufacturer of the drive inside their enclosure was and they said it varies from run to run, so possibily others had a decent Seagate drive inside and I got a cheap WD. Anyway I'm without a drive and am ready to just return it to Amazon if Iomega ever sends a replacement back. At this point I'm out $200 without a drive to show for it. I will never buy an Iomega product again solely on the customer support. To put this in perspective, they couldn't even lookup my return based on the RMA number they provided me. The outcome was "Mario in the warehouse will take care of this". He didn't.

5So many connections, so little time.Jun 12, 2008
By E. Seay "sixcolors"
I purchased this drive earlier this week from a local Fry's (Sorry Amazon, they had the better price). So far it's been a good purchase. I use it with my MacBook Pro as a backup drive for my Mac files and as a place to put my Windows games on a second partition. Because the Windows partition on my Mac is smaller, I install and run my games from the external and so far it keeps up just fine. Load times are comparable to the internal drive.

One thing that I like that I didn't see in the description is that this drive has a cooling fan inside. My other drive that relies on its aluminum case to cool it gets mighty hot and I worry that it might be shortening the life of the drive inside. This drive also came with all the cables you need for each of the connection types.

Like I said, I haven't had this drive long, so based on it's features I'm giving it a good rating. Others have complained of it being noisy, but my room is never quiet and I'm so used to the clicking an whirring of fans and motors that I haven't had any problems. The base and enclosure seem to absorb vibration enough that my whole desk isn't vibrating (a problem with my older drive).
