A. Both products were developed to provide athletes with protein and carbohydrate immediately following activity to facilitate muscle proten recovery and glycogen synthesis. 4New take on a crowded product segmentMar 28, 2008
By Chris in St. Pete
This is a somewhat new take on the competitive market for meal supplement and replacement drinks. Gatorade as you might imagine takes things from an athletes perspective by offering a performance series of drinks. I tried the recovery drink. Flavor was good to excellent. Being milk based its hard to get the flavor too wrong.

The calorie count and makeup were healthy enough to act as a meal replacement but I found myself longing for an energy bar or banana an hour later. As for the performance promise of assisting with recovery after a work out is where the product concept comes up a little sour. Thats not a negative just my experience.

For people working out hard enough to need to concern themselves with making food choices to aid in their recovery there are certainly better ways to get the needed protein, vitamins and minerals than a milk based shake.

Additionally, I think you would need to consume a fair amount of these things before you could attribute any decrease in recovery time to drinking one of these after a workout.

But like the millions of people who drink sports drinks as a replacement for plain water...the allusion and affinity with athletes may be enough to get sports image conscious adults to start buying these or make the switch from their Slim-Fast.

Bottom line: Drink it if you are bored with your current meal replacement drink and want a tasty new treat. But you shouldnt expect a shorter recovery time after a workout from drinking this.

5A beneficial Quickie!Mar 12, 2008

For decades, Gatorade is synonomous with sports, athletes, performance, health, hydration and nutrients and vitamins. If your intention is to use it as a higher level like sports training, performance, endurance, energy etc., then this is the product for you. If your level is for just fitness and exercise, then this can only be a great enhancement.

With a million Gatorade products flooding the market, new science and innovation are essential to keep in the game. So, the claim for the Recovery Shake is to "jumpstart the muscle recovery process."

For me, interested in only fitness and exercise, I will maximize the protein benefit. The strawberry flavor with all the nutrients is light and smooth and doesn't feel heavy afterwards. Unfortunately, I will never know if my muscles were recovered, as I won't drink it faithfully. But I like the nutritious quick snack it provides. Rizzo

Tastes okay, very strange texture... makes me think of the ooze that an eel secretes. Also it was too thick to get it all out of the can so much is wasted. So I would say just okay; not bad, but not great either.

2WAY TOO THICKAug 31, 2008

This does taste better than some of the protein shakes, but it's way to thick and creamy to drink. It does fill you up, but I would stick to protein powder+milk from now on.

3Its all about the tasteApr 08, 2008

This product gets 3 stars from the taste alone. Most protein shakes taste like chalk mixed with milk. But this one has a very good taste that makes you want to drink more of it. It is high in protein o it would be a great drink to have after a rigorous workout. The biggest downfall for the product is it has a lot of sugar in it. I try to avoid a lot of sugar so this wouldn't be the drink for me.
