A great fix for the priceNov 02, 2009
By Alex Cortez There is nothing like fresh roasted chestnut. But when these are not available, the French roasted chestnuts that come in a jar are typically the second best alternative but cost more than two and a half time these and do not have single serve packages. These are the best alternative for a quick snack. The drawback: They are smaller, very dark and look very unappetizing although the taste is fine, but the only thing that makes me yearn for the French chestnuts is their moisture content. Either the manufacturer is roasting these incompletely so they weigh more roasted than the French equivalent, or they must have problem with the manufacturing technique, or pack them while warm, increasing the moisture content in the bag. At time they can be even sticky to the fingers. Would I buy them again? Yes. If money was no issue would I buy them? No. I would buy the French roasted chestnuts in the glass jars. Better yet, I would have a maid roast them for me and peal them. LOL

Not Bad as a substituteMay 04, 2010

The Galil Roasted Chestnuts are OK if you absolutely need a substitute for fresh chestnuts. I found that they were slightly mushy and didn't have the crunch of real chestnuts. I would use them again if, and only if, I couldn't get fresh and needed to make a specific recipe.

I love roasted chestnuts!Aug 20, 2009

And these are great. Just like fresh roasted off the grill without having to peel them.
Order lots of them because 3.5 Ounces add up to about 10-12 chestnuts. These are great for eating out of the package or using in stuffing, etc.

Can't be without them!Jun 24, 2011
By Levana I absolutely love'em! I buy them by the case, for me and my children and my grandchildren. We use them for munching, cooking, baking. Im so glad not ti have to peel them, and they are every bit as delicious and nutritious as fresh roasted! Recently my granddaughter was in a crabby mood and couldn't stop crying. At my wits' end, I whipped out a bag of roasted chestnuts, and bingo, she stopped bawling, and stated getting them out of the bag, and popping them into her mouth! I have lots of recipes using them, just look on my site! [...]
