Great tasty, filling and quickDec 26, 2011
By Live4Him I really like this Frontier soup the best of all the available flavors. I added fresh portabella mushrooms and 1/2# of ground beef as the package recommends as an option. It is very good! The soup is hearty and filling enough for dinner or lunch. It is so easy to make and dinner is ready in 30-40 min. Highly recommend!

This is a quick and easy soup to make that tastes great. While the packaging calls for chicken broth, I substituted beef broth for a richer flavor and added a package of fresh shiitake mushrooms (tops only since the stems are quite woody). The result was a delicious, time saving meal that was hearty enough to be the sole course for dinner. I would absolutely buy this soup again. I felt the flavors were very authentic--spices just right, veggies plumped up nicely, and the barley was a nice touch. I'm going to be stocking my pantry with this and a few other Frontier Soups as time saving go-to dinners. I highly suggest using the beef broth and fresh shiitakes for great added flavor.

Neither a good buy nor tastyDec 16, 2009
By E. Maddox I like keeping dry soups on hand on the pantry shelf. I like soups a lot. I also make my own soups. But this soup is neither one I have had previously nor one I would have thought of making. Always game to try a good soup, I ordered it. It was a mistake. It is not inexpensive and packaging suggests that one add mushrooms and further suggests that adding ground beef is a good alternative. So I did ground beef and mushrooms (sauteed in my own butter per package). The barley is not pearl barley, it is barley flakes, reminded me of oatmeal as it poured out of packing. It was just a strange soup, nothing like anything I have ever eaten. I think I will probably give the other three packages to the food bank. If I don't, then the packages will next be tried as an ingredient in homemade meatloaf or meatballs which also is what I think the food bank would do with them.
Two stars because the soup did fill me for lunch. I threw the rest of it away.
