Ok the soup tastes great but is buy no means east to make. Plan on having soup the next day.

I love black bean soups of all types, but this is the first perfectly awful recipe I've ever encountered. First of all many additional ingredients are required (whole purple onion, quart of chicken broth, orange juice) and it is very labor-intensive and time-consuming to produce. The seasoning packet is way too heavy on the cumin, which I think is a Tex-Mex aberration. There are almost as many black eye peas in the bag as black beans and they don't taste the same. The final result is that the potentially lovely black bean taste is completely overwhelmed by the cumin and orange juice. The soup just taste funny. I've got three remaining bags to give away.
