Best used diluted with baby formulaFeb 11, 2011
By M. Patel Our pediatrician recommended we supplement our son's (and now our daughter's) formula with a multivitamin. She suggested Poly-Vi-Sol, so we purchased it and have been giving them a dose of the multivitamin. As you can tell by reading other reviews here, yes, this multi-vitamin smells bad -- really bad. I haven't tried tasting it, but I'm sure it tastes even worse. Although, I'm guessing that if I ground up an adult multivitamin and mixed it with a bit of water, it would taste just as bad.
Our son didn't mind the taste so much, but our daughter definitely does. Infants can be easy and picky like that. An easy solution we found for out daughter was to add .5 ml to each of her first 2 feedings every day. There's no gag-reflex and our daughter now keeps down the multivitamin she needs to grow healthy. I'm sure as she gets older, we'll just mix the vitamin into her food puree.
One warning -- this stains fabric really easily so be careful when/where you try to feed it to your baby.

Baby has gotten used to it...Jan 27, 2011
By Betty Crocker I almost threw out these vitamins after my baby made such an awful taste taking them. Prodded by my mother, I continued and now he takes them no problem (9 months old now). I give them to him right before he eats dinner so he doesn't have to taste it too long! It does stain though, so be sure to use a bib.

taste is on the tongue of the beholder....Aug 26, 2009
By city mom My son takes this vitamin supplement without any food, just straight out of the dropper, and likes it. We switched to this after he didn't like the Flintstones chewables (not one flavor out of the gazillion in the box). However, after reading the reviews posted here I tasted it for myself and it's just awful! (but I like the Flintstones) So, my advice would be to get one bottle from the drugstore, try it out - your kids may love it like mine does. However if they don't like it, you don't have 2 bottles sitting at home! I had to rate it 5* since the kid just gulps it down, and they are for him to take, not for me.

Not very useful if baby is just going to puke from itJun 25, 2010
By immelbatoast I was given these drops for free through my military healthcare provider, and told the baby needs to have them while being breastfed. Upon further research, I found that (aside from a few rare cases), the only vitamin breastfed babies really need is Vitamin D. They can get Vitamin D from the sun (most reports I read indicate they need 2 hours per week in the sun, fully clothed without a hat, to get what they need), but it gets so hot here in California that we tend to go out for walks more when the sun is down so I wanted to give him something.
I've tried giving him this product 3 times over 3 separate days. The first time he spit it out all over himself...resulting in a mess and worries about whether it would stain. The second time he only spit out some of it, but I had to wash his face because it is just so darn sticky, almost like maple syrup. The third time I managed to get him to keep the full dose down, but he puked all over himself and me. I gave up. I can't blame him for not wanting to take it...the smell is awful, the taste is worse, and it's sticky and brown.
I'm now ordering the Baby Ddrops Vitamin D Drops for Babies 400 IU by Carlson Labs - 10ml, nothing but Vitamin D and some oil, tasteless/odorless, and a small drop that I can apply to my breast before feeding (or on a pacifier). Even though I get these Enfamil drops for free, I still would rather pay to use another product. That speaks for itself!

Don't squirt this in their mouth by itself!Apr 04, 2012
By Book Lover If your doctor recommends these vitamins, then go for it, but most babies don't need extra vitamins. They were recommended for my baby because she was extremely premature. The nurses in the NICU warned me never to put it directly in the baby's mouth. It tastes so awful that babies have held their breath and "coded" when they tried that at the hospital! Mix it in half an ounce of breast milk or formula, give it to the baby before the rest of the meal so she drinks it all, and she'll be much happier than if you try to put it directly in her mouth.
