Good enough for Commadore PerryDec 02, 2008
By Bill Degler After years of trying to brew a cup of coffee at home that tasted as good as that in a good restaurant, I mastered the 3-legged method: a grinder to finely grind the beans just before brewing, a drip-style coffee maker, and Bokar-blend coffee. Make it strong! Bokar is the only full-strength, yet non-bitter, coffee I have found. And Commadore Perry? Leaving for his trek to the North Pole, he was quoted as explaining why he was taking Bokar coffee with him, "I will be facing many privations; at least I can have the best coffee."

We love itNov 20, 2010
By P. Fulton We were thrilled to find Eight O'Clock Bokar coffee again. It was one of our favorites for years until it disappeared from the shelves in all of our local markets replaced by flavored blends which we do not buy.
It's a nice, medium dark roast coffee but brews light so if you enjoy a strong cup of coffee, and we do, plan to add an extra scoop to each pot if you use an auto-drip. It's a coffee created long before fast brewing auto-drip coffee pots so is much stronger if made in a percolator or manual drip coffee maker.
We had a pot brewing within minutes of our package arriving and thoroughly enjoyed every drop of our reunion with the lovely taste we had thought was gone forever.
We will be back for more soon.

Enjoy it every fourth bag or so. Updated reviewJul 09, 2009
By Moodies forever Have enjoyed 8 O'Clock Bokar Blend many times. I like variety so I swap around a lot. But every time I buy Bokar blend I enjoy it. I am not a coffee snob, but appreciate a good smooth, flavorable cup of coffee.
UPDATE: 9-18-2011 Wanted to mention that I purchased a new bag a month or so ago at the grocery store. This bag was sensational. All kinds of nice flavors and very smooth. A nice medium-dark roast that did not taste burnt. Will buy again, about 4 bags from now.

drinkable but unremarkableMar 24, 2011
By J. Singer Everyone should be aware that this is a relatively light-roasted coffee. The dry appearance of the beans is because of the light roast, and is not an indicator of quality. In fact, many coffee geeks prefer lighter roasts because they retain more of the bean flavor as opposed to darker roasts which often burn the beans (lookin' at you, Starbucks). Of course, there's no right or wrong roast level; drink what you like.
Anyway, this is a perfectly drinkable coffee, but there's really nothing that stands out about it at all. The flavor profile is moderate in just about every way. A bit acidic, a bit caramelly, a bit chocolatey. On the plus side, it makes a nice espresso or capuccino (contrary to popular belief, light roasts can make great espresso).
On the minus side (and this is a big minus), the beans don't taste particularly fresh. It's a major peeve of mine when coffee companies put a "best by" date 6 or more months after roasting. No matter how coffee is packed, it tastes much better within a week or two of roasting.

Simply the BestNov 24, 2010
By Herman Ackerman Having tried many of the coffee blends offered, the Eight O'clock Whole Bean beats them all. The ground coffee from anybody pales with comparison. It may be inconvenient to "grind your own", but the results are amazing and well worth the extra few minutes. This is the coffee my mother used to purchase from the A & P back in the 50's and percolated on the stove. The fragrance/taste is quite similar!
