Healthy, and Tasty, but not for everyoneMar 23, 2009
By Phil Rosenthal I originally discovered this product at Whole Foods when looking for a healthy fiber-rich carb source to add to my daily breakfast, and think the taste of this is absolutely great. If you are used to a high sugar baked bean product (eg, Heinz Baked Beans), this will surely be less sweet, however. My girlfriend, who also eats healthy, seems to only taste one ingredient in this - the Sorghum, and doesn't like it at all.
I'd suggest trying it once (if you can buy it in a local supermarket, buy just one), and if you like it, buy it in bulk from amazon as the price is much better here.

Healthy - Yes! But The Taste? - Hard To SwallowFeb 04, 2009

"Eden Organic Baked Beans" have some great things going for it. Low salt, fat free, cholesterol free, organic, a good source of,protein(8 g per serving),potassium, calcium and iron. All those things are what I'm looking for and the only reason I give 2 stars. But the one area they are lacking is good taste. I am not new to low sodium foods. I have been using and on the look out for it for years. Always trying to find something that tastes good as well as is healthy. The products seem to be getting better and better and I have recommended several items. My favorite at this time is Amy's brand. I would especially recommendAmy's Light in Sodium Organic Minestrone Soup, 14.1-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12) (see my review for details)to anyone trying to switch over to low sodium as an example of how good it can be. But Amy's didn't have any low sodium baked beans, so I decided to give this Eden brand a try.
I guess if i could only use one word to describe the taste - it would be "blechhh". It leaves a horrible sour sort of after taste in my mouth that makes me shudder, and they are really dry going down. I wouldn't recommend buying these in bulk. If you see these at your local market and want to try a can for yourself, that would be advisable, but have some applesauce or some other favorite side to wash these down.
One other good thing I could say is that they have a long shelf life. Which is where they will stay - on my shelf - unless I have some big emergency, and even then I'd have to be desperate.
Ingredients for those interested are: Organic Navy beans,Water,Organic Sorghum,Tomato Puree,Organic Apple Cider Vinegar,Organic Mustard seed,Organic Onion and spices, sea salt.
Sorry but this is one healthy product I can't recommend.....Laurie

I was so disappointed!Jun 09, 2011

I had such high hopes for these. I really wanted an easy quick and healthy meal for my toddler on those days we spend too long at the park and needed a really quick lunch before nap time. I thought I'd throw some cut up soy hot dogs in with these and it would be like 'healthy franks and beans.' Not so much. The taste was just awful. I wound up using them up in chili to hide the flavor. I was so sad because these were the only Eden Organic canned items at my Whole Foods. Glad I found a wider variety on Amazon, but I will be sure this time to have a recipe planned for them rather than eating them plain!

A little different, but still good.Dec 24, 2009
By K.Cameron I have been looking for canned organic baked beans for quite some time, since my children love them and I don't always have the time to make them from scratch. When I saw Eden made organic baked beans I immediately bought a case and prayed they would taste decent. My prayers were answered when I opened the first can of beans and tried them. They are a little different, for me anyway, but overall they are quite tasty. The only "complaint" I have is the sorghum. I'm just not used to it! I'm more used to baked beans being made with brown sugar or maple syrup, so the sorghum is a little strong for me. However if I add just a tbsp of grade b maple syrup or agave nectar it sweetens it right up for me. And of course my children just love them and always ask for seconds :) The can lining being bpa-free was also a major selling point and plus for me. Who could ask for more? Thank you Eden for another satsifying prodcut!

Vegan Organic Kosher ChoiceAug 23, 2008

Vegan. Organic. Kosher pareve. Fat free. Low salt. Beautiful homemade flavor. Best vegan baked beans I have ever tried. Wow. Eleven stars. Very high quality. Great side dish, with rice, on crackers, or "on toast" for breakfast (or anytime) as our friends in the U.K. love to do. Approx. 525 calories, 28g protein, 0g fat, and 455mg sodium per can. Made with organic navy beans, organic sorghum, organic tomato puree, organic apple cider vinegar, organic mustard seed, organic onion, organic spices, and sea salt. This review is out there for those for whom this makes a difference. See all of my reviews for more great choices. Check out "Vegan Grocery Favorites" and "Vegan Grocery Top Ten" in Listmania. Your "helpful" votes count and will be greatly appreciated to benefit the search of others. Thank you.
