5Next best thing to Fresh Chopped ClamsDec 20, 2010
By R. Amato "SoupMan"
These are very good, even straight from can they aren't bad. I make a clam chowder with them, very easy to make and when I cant find fresh or frozen these are the best canned I have ever used. Heres a quick recipe using these canned clams, enough for about 12 people

1/4lb to 1/2 lb of salted pork finely minced

1 Tablespoon or less Ghee or clarfied butter

3 bottles of Snows Clam Broth(available on Amazon)

4 15oz Cans of the DELALLO chopped sea clams

2 large sweet onions chopped small dice

1 reg sized can Tomato Soup

1 8 oz can tomato puree or 3 large Ripe tomatoes chopped fine

1/2 to 1 cup fine crushed oyster crackers depending on how thick you like it.

Russet Potatoes peeled and cut into 1/2" cubes, about 3 lbs maybe more?(you can also cook them separately)

Directions:

1. Use a large Dutch oven with thick bottom and on low cook salt pork in the Ghee or clarified butter till it has rendered all fat and turns brown. Don't remove the fat!!
Add onions till they wilt.
Add bottles of Clam broth, bring to a boil
Add tomato soup and fresh or canned tomatoes bring to boil again
Then add canned clams broth and all. Simmer 20 minutes. I add the potatoes already cooked but you can add them after 10 minutes of the simmering but you might need to add water as the potatoes suck up too much broth. When finished add some black pepper and serve with oyster crackers or clamcakes. It makes a lot, right to top of Dutch Oven but I've never had to throw away any. It freezes great as long as you do not add potatoes to it. I usually cook this take half of the soup out add potatoes and then freeze the rest without potatoes. All you do after is defrost, reheat and add potatoes. For even better results we use Quahogs instead of clams here in Rhode Island , a bit stronger than a clam.

I know its not cheap to make this using 4 cans but it's well worth it if you can't get them fresh or frozen. Amazon's price on these is great and with prime membership they get here in two days for FREE!!

5Best canned clams I have ever triedFeb 01, 2011
By Michael Petro "Mike Petro"
The clams were very tender, not tough or chewy at all. Being inland I must use canned clams for my chowder and I have tried many brands, including the large 51oz restaurant styles. These are hands down the best yet. I highly recommend them when fresh are not an option.

These clams are perfect for a small pot of Chowder. They do not need to be picked and cleaned.

5Great tasting clams!May 23, 2012

These clams are very fresh for canned clams. I use them in my New England Clam Chowder Soup and they have a great taste! I highly recommend this product for all your receipts that require clams be used and when fresh clams are not available.

4Made for Inlanders like me!May 15, 2012

I love clam chowder but it is hard to get West of the Mississippi so I prefer to make it. This is a great size for a batch of chowder in the crockpot. I enjoyed the size of the clams. Beats searching for a clam chowder restaurant here in COLORADO!
