I'm ImpressedJun 04, 2008
By Y.G. I stumbled upon Country Save Laundry Detergent when I began cloth diapering in an attempt to be more environmentally friendly. I should mention that I have two kids and a husband who is a maintenance technician at a factory so we have tons of dirty, sometimes really dirty laundry.
I like that it has no scent so it doesn't irritate anyone's sensitive skin and it smells more fresh to me that way. It suds well and cleans better than most conventional, chemical laden soaps I've used before.
I am impressed that clothing, when hung on a line to dry, does not come out stiff. I think that was one of my bigger selling points, that and it has no fragrance or extras that causes liquids to repel. This is huge for cloth diapers.
I bought one 10 pound box, and use it in my top loader. We're on the same box about two months later so I'd say it's a good buy.
I'm hooked.

Fabulous product but NO stars to Amazon for packaging!!!Jun 02, 2008
By Raw Foodie I love this laundry detergent! I have EXTREMELY sensitive skin and had terrible trouble with Tide and Cheer HE detergents. I have NO problems with this product. I also am really liking the lack of fragrance. It simply smells clean. My clothes are just as clean as they were using Tide, Gain, Cheer or 7th Generation. I have a HE front-end loader. If I am going to do a load with cold water, I dissolve my detergent in a couple cups of warm water, dump it in the washer, put in the dirty clothes and then start the washer. The box suggests you always put your detergent and some water in your washer prior to adding clothes, but this is a little difficult with a HE front-end loader, so I use my above method with great success. My only complaint is with Amazon because one of the boxes they shipped me was damaged and they would have seen this when they packed the box. When I opened the box upon arrival, there was detergent powder all over! As opposed to dealing with a return, I opted to clean the three boxes that were okay and put the remaining contents of the 4th box into a large plastic tub for storage. I will DEFINITELY purchase this again for the price vs. # of loads and the performance.

The best "green" detergent out there!May 03, 2008
By Melissa Our household laundry needs include cloth diapers, two sons with eczema-prone skin and a husband who commutes to the train station on a bike every day (i.e. stinky, sweaty clothes) and this detergent takes care of them all---bright whites, soft and clean clothes every time AND no smells or scents whatsoever! This is such an awesome product and one that is environmentally responsible at that!

It's like washing with plain waterOct 17, 2010
By S. Shrivastava I'm all for natural, green and non-toxic products. But if they don't accomplish the task at hand, what good are they? I don't understand all of the positive reviews here. People must either be blind, have very low standards or are easily brainwashed. Many of the glowing reviews have to do with cleaning diapers, so I must conclude that diapers are not all that challenging.
I have soft water, a 4.0 cuft top-of-the-line German machine, and used this detergent on the hottest "whitest whites" setting which utilizes my machine's internal heater to hit 160°F. After several washes, whites look dingy and stains are faded but not removed. This product does absolutely nothing for fat and protein-based stains. The lack of enzymes will leave such stains largely untouched.
Once you look at the ingredients (listed in order of quantity, highest listed towards the top), it's fairly obvious why this product is ineffective:
Sodium Carbonate: This is a precipitating water softener which neutralizes calcium and magnesium in hard water. Unfortunately, it also forms a precipitate which can settle onto your washer parts and clothing.
Sodium Sulfate: This is nothing more than an inert filler. THE #2 INGREDIENT IN THIS PRODUCT IS FILLER! We should all feel ripped-off by this one.
Sodium Borate: Acts as a chemical buffer to stabilize pH. It also breaks down in your washer to form hydrogen peroxide, although not in sufficient quantities to act as an effective bleaching agent.
Sodium Alkyl Aryl Sulfonate: Very low cost anionic surfactant. Helps keep dirt away from fabrics and aids in removing fabric softener residues. Also used in pesticides and aircraft cleaning products.
Linear Alcohol Ethoxylate: Non-ionic surfactant which aids in grease removal.
Coconut Diethanolamide: Emulsifier
My results using one of the best washing machines on the planet, soft water and this detergent were beyond disappointing. Save your money, or buy a natural product that actually works like Vaska or Bi-O-Kleen Premium. I've used both and their performance is on par with major department store brands while being easy on your and the earth.

Needs specific use for hard water and front loaderSep 18, 2008
By hcfischer1 I think I have finally figured this detergent out. I bought it primarily to use with cloth diapers but I have hard water and a front loader (which is a challenge for any detergent). The key is to dissolve it in a small amount of hot water before it is put in the dispenser. You only need a very small amount (1/8 of the cup or less), otherwise you'll be going through 4 rinse cycles at the end. For use with my towels I have found that it still smells like the detergent (which is fragrance free) even after a wash and extra rinse cycle. I'll probably end up using a water softener to help get my clothes free from detergent.
