Funny but hard to care forSep 10, 2011
By D. Bryan With this pet and any other like it the majority of the seeds will be on the back of the head and will slide down before sprouting if you're not careful. I dinged them a star for the troubles but I've got some pointers for everyone below that I've learned with these.
When I do my pets I immediatly wrap them in plastic wrap to keep the seeds in place and check on them at least once a day to push the seeds that slid down back up. Just leave the wrap on until the sprout.
Any seeds that slid where I don't want and started to sprout I carfully move to a thin patch somewhere on the pet. You have to do this early though, before the roots really come out much.
I keep the extra seeds that won't go on the pet in a small bowl and lightly water them so they begin to sprout but stay in a thick goo. If you water too much they won't be usable later.
When I take the wrap off the pets I smother the extra seed goo on and then watch them grow full and healthy.
When I didn't use the plastic wrap and extra seeds they grew in very patchy and I had to keep pushing seeds back up every day with a butter knife or I wouldn't have had any seeds except the very top.
Good luck and enjoy seeing Shaggy with a big green afro.
Grandson with autism loves itJan 01, 2011
By Virginia Steinbach My grandson with autism couldn't wait to watch it grow. He has a very cute sense of humor and when he opened it, he put a green towel on Shaggy's head and said, "Now, it's perfect" and then giggled.

I bought this simply as a gag gift christmas present for my sister. She got a real kick out of it but for some reason we could never get the stuff to really sprout. They are a great gag gift but don't expect them to always work out.
Very disappointingFeb 08, 2009
By Theresa Ridley I ordered the Scooby-Doo Chia Pet for my grandchildren who are avid Scooby Doo fans. First of all, it took too long to come and secondly no child could have done the project. After several days of getting it prepared, applying the paste to the head and waiting, waiting, waiting for it to sprout, (took forever) it only partially sprouted. We coverd the head with plastic as they suggested and that helped a little. It never got a full head of grass as the picture suggested. After a few days, even the small growth it got began to die and became very limp. It was very disappointing, to say the least and a total waste of money. Not only that, it was very smelly and the children didn't even want to go near it.
