Dead on arrival. Called Cavalry's customer support and told them it appeared that the hard drive was bad since I had to format it due to not working and only 3 of the six lights on the front were lit. I was told to format again and that it was normal that only 3 of 6 lights were supposed to be illuminated.
I re-formatted (a very long process on a 2TB configuration). Still totally non-working so called customer support back and they told me drive bad and return for another drive array. Did so and Amazon immediately sent another. This drive arrived pre-formatted (as advertised) and runs perfectly! I haven't used it a great deal since it is only for my photography back-ups. NOTE: If the original arrived and worked as well as the second, it would get a five-star rating.
By the way, all 6 lights are illuminated and that's the way it is supposed to be...

This is the very first time I return an item to amazon.com.
The hard drive arrived without an owner's manual and without a CD/DVD. They were clearly missing since on the box was written the included items.
Two of the four 1 TB hard disks were defective. I swapped them, and confirmed they were defective. I even tried formatting, but only 2TB could be read by my computer. I tried reading the hard drives from both a MAC and a Windows PC.
Another problem to be aware of is that your computer will only read 2 TB at a time. Though the hard drive is 4 TB, it is actually divided into two 2 TB partitions, and each will be designated a separate drive letter. For example, drive G and drive H. You cannot unite all four disks together to have a single 4 TB partition, which is exactly what I needed. You might as well by two separate 2 TB drives. (Note: you can also have 4 partitions of 1 TB each, so basically 4 different drives).
That said, amazon was great in returning this item. For that I give amazon a 5 stars rating, but since this review is on the product itself, I'll have to give it a one star rating only.
To return an item, just go to your account on amazon.com, then go to return items or gifts. You'll print a page with a special ID code and the return address. Include the ID printout in your package and glue the return address on it. That's it. Within a week (in my case) you will be fully refunded. Amazon even refunded my postal charges. Great service!
