BEWARE Defective? Choking hazard. Mislabeled?Jan 22, 2010

Something is very wrong with this product from this website. BEWARE.
I've been familiar with this product for a couple years. Just a week ago I bought some of these from a store and they were soft and semi-transparent as they always had been in the past. Their texture was always similar to a gummy bear.
The 10pack I just received from Amazon is hard, dry, and dark like beef jerky. I don't even know how this is possible if they are made with chicken breast so clearly, they are made with dark meat of some sort or are made from burned white meat. I offered one of the darker treats to one of our many cats and she choked on it. I have alerted Amazon to the issue and suggested an immediate recall. I contacted Dogswell/Catswell, as well. So far nobody has offered any relief. Do not feed these to your cat if they are dark and hard, it is a serious choking hazard.
On another note, there is more reason for concern. I have repeatedly asked the manufacturer if the chicken breast used in the Catswell treats is treated with a salt solution before it is is purchased by Catswell. "They" will not answer my question. This is very important information for people who have cats with CRF, and other imbalances which can be affected by salt/iodine intake. If anyone can get them to answer this question fairly and completely, please let me know.

"KNOWN TO CAUSE KIDNEY DISEASE IN PETS"; save your money and buy something elseMar 18, 2012
By Liz Darcy I had been reading several reviews by people have found mold in these treats as well as comments about the color variations. I was skeptical at first about these comments, since I have bought these treats twice, and never found any apparent problems. However, I did think it was odd that the color of the treats in the second bag I bought was light orange, while the color of the treats in the first bag I bought was dark brown. However, I didn't think much of it since my cat seemed to enjoy both. But then I began reading reviews about how these treats may be a health hazard, so I became worried and stopped feeding them to her.
I ended up taking my cat to a new vet recently and coincidentally it turns out they write a "treat warning" on all their receipts which warns pet owners not to feed jerky treats made in china (YES, these *ARE* MADE IN CHINA) to their pets as they have been known to cause kidney disease. So there has to be some truth to all the complaints about these treats. Cats seem prone to kidney disease to begin with; why take chances?
It's true that cats may go crazy for these treats and love them. I know my cat does. But there are other treats she enjoys just as much. I currently have the "Breathies" and "Vita Kitty" version of these and both are now in the trash, because my cat's life is worth more than a five dollar bag of treats. I wouldn't risk it just because she likes them so much because I have a plethora of other healthy treats she loves.
Oh and for people who think they should continue feeding these because they claim to or seem to have breath freshening benefits, let me tell you, they don't. They do not actually freshen cat breath. In order for a treat to freshen breath, a cat would actually have to chew it. There is no way you can or should be feeding these whole, because your cat will simply choke on them. And when you break them into manageable pieces, your cat will simply swallow them. There. No breath freshening benefits whatsoever. If you want to freshen your cat's breath, brush her teeth. If brushing is impossible, get some of the CET poultry flavored toothpaste, and just let them lick it. It works enzymatically and my cat absolutely loves the flavor. CET also sells chews that are medicated to actually clean your cat's teeth. And just an FYI, your cat's breath will never smell minty fresh or completely odorless, because animals that eat such high protein diets tend to have a certain degree of halitosis.
I am just really glad my vet confirmed that these treats are known to cause health problems. I strongly urge anyone reading this to spend their money on some other treats. Better options are Feline Greenies (they claim to help their teeth and breath, too), Pet Greens, or any kind of freeze dried chicken/turkey treats. There's lots of good stuff out there so don't waste your money on this.

Good for a whileMay 28, 2009

Had to order so many of these, ended up giving some to the shelter and friends with cats. I only have one cat at the moment and she likes variety so have to rotate. She liked these but didn't love them.
Works surprisingly wellFeb 12, 2012
By Hello Moogy I brought these treats at a high price yet with little hope of them actually working. My 7 year old male cat absolutely loves them, so much so that I've been able to teach him some tricks using these treats plus a clicker. I like that I can give him a good quantity of these treats in one sitting because they are so lean and natural.
The product does vary in color (I have one pack that is really dry and dark and one pack that is light and gummy in texture), but my cat loves them both!
I was already really happy with these treats, and then my friend pointed out that my cat's breath had significantly improved!
In the end, these treats are 1.) lean and healthy, 2.) delicious to my cat, and 3.) actually helps with kitty breath!
I am totally a fan of Breathies!
Completely got rid of bad breathApr 10, 2011
By JConsumer I got my kitty these because I like to have treats for him. His breath always smelled fishy (which is strange because he eats Blue Buffalo dry food that does not have a fishy odor). I gave him a few of these every day (he loved them) and his breath has no odor at all anymore. Can't ask for much more!
