4Nice Paper - but worth the price?Mar 30, 2011
By C. Bencina
I bought this paper for the purpose of printing out my junior thesis artwork. I was persuaded to buy this paper by all the five star reviews. Upon receiving it, I noticed that the material wasn't exactly what I had expected it to be. It is essentially a matte paper. I was under the impression that this paper would have some sort of texture to it, more tooth to it, but it doesn't. It's rather smooth. I also expected the paper to be slightly heavier, but it's surprisingly light. No worries though, the paper does not warp or anything of the sort; it holds up well.

Six of my thesis pieces were printed out on this paper. (You can see the image I uploaded in product images) Overall, I am happy with the paper. It successfully printed and looks great.

However, I knocked out a star for the price. I should knock off two, but the paper itself is great. It simply is not worth it at all, personally, this paper should be worth about $25. What would have sold me would have been some kind of texture or interesting finish you could feel. But it's basically just a matte paper. Personally, I will not buy this paper again unless they drop the price.

Last year, I printed my artwork on Brilliant Supreme 13 x 19 Double Sided Matte Paper sold by Calumet. I compared my thesis prints to a print I made on the brilliant supreme paper. The brilliant supreme paper is slightly smoother (hardly noticeable) and a tiny bit heavier (again, not too noticeable). The look of both prints, however, are exactly the same. To boot, the Brilliant Supreme brand is 25 papers, same size, double sided, for half price. Obviously, the brilliant supreme is a better deal. No argument which is a better bang for your buck.

Overall I give the paper 4 stars. I am very happy with my prints, they all came out great. But without some kind of special tooth to the paper, it just doesn't justify the price of it.

5Canon Fine Art Paper Photo Rag PaperAug 16, 2007
By Calvin J. Williams
This is by far the best Fine Art photo paper I have used. Marvelous resolution and color on my Canon Pixma Pro 9000. I am going back through my stock and reprinting many of my best older photos...

5Not what I expected, but awesome anyway!Nov 06, 2008
By Thomas N. Gilmore
I am amazed at the quality of the printout on this paper from my new Canon Pixma 9000 printer. I am a Canon fan so use my Canon Rebel Xsi to produce the photographs I print out on this paper. It is my first experience in using various paper types and wanted to try out this paper for some aircraft photos after reading the reviews.
It is more of a matte finish, but the colors are vibrant and true. The effect is kind of like a painting more than a photograph. It is a good choice for a classic landscape photograph.
One thing I noticed is that printouts are recommended to have a border. I found no way on the Pro 9000 printer to produce a borderless printout in the EasyPhoto Pro software. The results are fine even with the border. The reason is that the accuracy of the printout can suffer if the print were done in a borderless format.

5Superb look and feel, fantastic printsJul 27, 2007
By Charlie L.
After printing a landscape I had printed on my old i900D and not seeing the results I expected, I upgraded to the Canon Pro9000 and printed the same shot, WOW, what a difference. The photo rag paper has a great feel and the resutling colors blew me away. The blue sky and deep greens matched perfectly what I was seeing on my monitor. The paper may be more expensive than the Photo Paper Pro, but you'll love the reults. I can't wait to try it on some portraits where this paper really excels.

5Jaw droppingly amazing!May 14, 2011

I recently bought my first (semi?) high end printer - the Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II Inkjet Photo Printer (3295B002), and was looking for some high quality paper to feed that beautiful monster - the printer is huge and it makes beautiful prints. Conventional wisdom says to stick with the printer manufacturer's paper and so bought this paper at a good price at my favorite retailer, amazon.com!

This paper is outstanding, simply and clearly outstanding. The paper is stiff-ish, but not really stiff as such. It has a beautiful matte texture. Once the printer was done depositing its tiny droplets of ink, the result is a breathtakingly beautiful photograph. The colors are rich and true. There are no gradations, no banding and the surface is smooth. You have to see it to believe it. I just ordered the 8.5x11 inch size of this paper and am going to try it with my Pixma iP4500 to compare.

It does have a slight "con" though which is, trying to figure out the printing surface! The two sides are very similar in appearance and texture. The printing side is smoother but initially, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference. It is very IMPORTANT to keep your wits about you as you open the package. The paper is packed in a clear plastic packet with the printing surface UP if you lay the main packet face down. There is a helpful graphic on the packet. You want to mark which side of the paper packet (not the outside/main package) was "up" before you remove this clear plastic packet from the main package. Always put the sheet back the same way, if you end up not using it. If you mess up, Canon recommends using a Post-it note kind of thing to determine the printing side - it is stickier.

If you are interested in making your own prints, you simply have to address each step of the process. This means, calibrating your monitor, choosing the right printer, choosing the right paper for THAT printer, choosing the right paper for the type of photograph (portrait? landscape/nature?), and choosing the printer and paper settings in your photo software. I use an iMac, a Spyder3Elite to calibrate the display, the Pro9000 Mk II, and Adobe Lightroom 3. LR3 manages the color, color management being turned off in the printer driver. This paper is currently being used to print some of my favorite portrait photographs. "Serious amateur" would be the most accurate description of the kind of photographer that I am. I am not an expert by any stretch of imagination and depend on online articles and reviews a lot to figure these things out.

Before purchasing this, during the course of research, I came across a review that mentioned the requirement imposed by the printer driver to have a large border especially at the bottom. I cannot find that review now but I was disturbed by the possibility to not have even an 11 x 14 inch print due to this requirement, as mentioned in that review.

That is not true, I am very happy to report. You certainly do need a border, since borderless printing does not seem to be an option. Here are my settings in Lightroom 3:

In the "page setup tab": Paper size "Art A3+ 13 x 19"

In the LR3 print module": Zoom to fill; (Rotate to fit if needed); Margins (all) 0.2 in; Cell size H 18.6 in, W 12.6 in. Don't forget to choose the right print resolution and the correct profile in "Color Management".

The result would be a beautiful 18.6 x 12.6 photograph that YOU took, YOU processed and YOU printed. All YOU!

Enjoy the ego ride!
