One glitch, otherwise a great machineFeb 19, 2008
By PatKG If you do a moderate amount of faxing, and need a stand alone fax, this is a great machine. You can scan faxes into the memory while it is sending, so if you have several faxes to send, you can scan them all in at once. Saves a lot of time. The inkjet faxes are much easier to read than thermal rolls.
The reason I didn't give it a five-star was that it wouldn't receive right out of the box. Took a good 15 minutes on the phone with Brother's customer service (here in the US, BTW...) but it got done. Some internal setting was off. But, it now works great. Just know that's a very minor problem if it occurs. Nuisance.
Ink CartridgesMar 15, 2011
By Harriet Be forewarned - If any one of the color cartridges (3) are empty this unit will not copy! We have the 1360 C IntelliFax unit. Far, far too quickly, I get a notice on the machine that one of the color cartridges is empty and the other two are almost empty.
I called Brother and was told the initial cartridges will not last as long as the replacement cartridges. Huh? They cited a system designed to give the customer "optimuim quality" copying. Hey, for me, if I was seeking optimum quality copying, I would have brought a $300 copying machine. This is advertised as a basic home type unit and that's how I use it. Few if any copies.
I purchased this unit for the phone and answering maching first..copying and fax second. If I made 15-25 color copies before the first of three color cartridges ran out, it was a lot! Brother told me the following: Everytime the unit cleans itself (it does that often and I am sure that is a good feature), it uses up some of the ink, too.
The unit is shipped dry and that makes sense, too. You, the customer, then initialize the filling of these color inks to the tube(s) that go to the print head(s). Here again, they told me a portion of that ink sits in the tubes and that also reduces the availability of initial cartridge inks. They said when you buy the second set of cartridges, there will now be ink in the lines already and so you will get more copies out of these replacement cartridges.
I tried to pin them down on how many copies I should get out of these color cartridges. They had some ridiculous formula and we eventually settled on 200 8-11 copies. Folks, I never came close..So, I strongly suggest you research this unit and call Brother directly and ask them to explain how you get so few copies out of the initial color cartridges they supply with this unit. Let them tell you what they told me.
As far as I am concerned, I should have added another $40 to the cost of this initial purchase because of the extremely short duration of these color cartridges! The Brother representatives both had answers to my issue, which leads me to believe I am not the first one to complain about this?
For the record, the unit works well. My big problem with this product is the unit is not designed to work without all the cartridges so if you really don't need color copies, I suggest you get their a black and white copier.

Piece of JunkMar 06, 2010
By Thomas

This machine is a complete piece of junk. After installing the ink cartridge, the machines demands to print a page out. But the paper will not feed into the machine. In the meantime, the machine will not allow it to do anything else, such as receive a call, send a fax, or anything else. Utterly useless and a complete waste of money.
