5My Favorite "Plain" Black TeaJun 17, 2009
By Cystem Phailure "cystemphailure"
I'm no tea expert, but I've sampled quite a few of the Bigelow varieties. English Breakfast is a great basic black tea, much more full than the flavor in a black tea bag from a generic or major brand 100-bag box. I don't find it to be bitter at all, unlike some black tea varieties. I try to let it steep for no more than 2 minutes in the cup (the package suggests 1 to 2 minutes), as additional time seems to introduce a bitter component that increases with time. If you want a stronger flavor, you might experiment with 2 bags, rather than 1 bag for longer time. However, this is a fairly strong tea, and I'm happy with the strength from one bag. I consider English Breakfast to be my "standard" tea for when I'm not looking for some variety.

Don't confuse English Breakfast (pink bag) with another Bigelow black tea variety called English TeaTime (deep blue bag). There's quite a difference, with the English TeaTime being much weaker.

I always drink tea straight--no sugar, no honey, no lemon, no milk! So my reviews are my opinions of the straight tea flavor, not how it interacts with another agent. I drink Bigelow tea almost exclusively, because it's readily available, modestly priced, and has lots of varieties that are all of decent quality. If I give a Bigelow flavor less stars, it reflects only my taste preference, and is not a statement of low product quality.

5This is the BEST English Breakfast tea in a bag!Apr 06, 2009
By A. Bonner
I am an avid tea drinker and have tried many brands and types. This is my first choice for black tea in a tea bag, hands down. If you think that any teabag will do, try this one and taste the difference! Nice and bold, but no bitterness.

5My local stores have lost my business...Oct 04, 2011
By Julie H
It irks me that local stores completely ignore tea drinkers. You can find more coffee than you can shake a stick at, but you can't find plain old black tea.

Oh, you can find that orange and black pekoe mess---and I won't mention brands---but if you want a nice black tea without the twang (for lack of a better word), you're out of luck.

Our local stores don't stock this tea (or any other plain old black tea). This is a great price, too.

I use two of these tea bags in my keurig and it makes a nice cup of black tea (with the EZ-Cup). Steeping in the regular mode (about 3-5 minutes per bag/cup) makes a nice cup of tea, too.

Price and availability considered, this is a steal of a deal.

5My favorite teaMar 16, 2011
By Mrs. Night Owl
This is a great basic tea. My husband and I drink iced tea every day and through years of trying out different kinds, this is the clear winner. It doesn't have a funny "other" taste to it like so many do. No undertones or sneaky flavors... just tea.
We purchase this through the "subscribe and save" program so we get a shipment every month for less than the cost anywhere else. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a regular, great-tasting tea that can please a wide range of tastes.

5Breakfast Tea at a Reasonable PriceMay 10, 2010
By M. Lerman
Bigelow's English Breakfast Tea Bigelow English Breakfast Tea, 20-Count Boxes (Pack of 6)
in a good old fashioned tea bag with a string is perfect for me.
The new style tea mini-cup powders that require an expensive machine may suit some, but for me
that form of the tea is no better, and roughly twice as expensive, even without figuring in the cost of the
glorified hot water heater that delivers a cup of water.

I will stay with Bigelow in a bag and Amazon as the source. My local market opted to eliminate
the item in favor of the "modern" form of the tea - but they lost be as a tea customer.
