Helped cancer recoveryFeb 01, 2010

"High Mountain Living"
My husband had treatment for head and neck cancer this past fall. The treatment was brutal and resulted in him not being able to eat large amounts of food due to the damage to the mouth, throat and neck caused by the radiation. The Benecalorie product allowed me to make small liquid meals for him that still had a large number of calories. The Dietician wanted him on a 2000-2500 calorie diet daily and recommended this product to help. Without this product I never would have been able to get that number of calories into him each day. Because we were able to keep weight loss to a minimum using this product he recovered very quickly. In fact two weeks after the end of treatment he was back to his proper weight and his doctors were congratulating him on how well he came through the treatments. Without this product I believe he would have lost a lot more weight and his recovery would have been slower. Also I would like to thank Amazon for selling this product. Near as I can tell it is not sold in stores (at least not in my area). I first purchased from another website and requested 2 day delivery since time was critical. I received the product 5 days later. Thanks to Amazon Prime I was able to spread the purchases out during the treatment and still know I would receive them in the time promised.

Added Calories, Little taste, little amountOct 31, 2009
By Megan's Mom My daughter was undergoing intense chemo for leukemia and was rapidly losing weight due to no appetite. She couldn't eat much and hated anything that tasted sweet (ie ensure, boost, etc). The little cartons of benecalorie added over 300 calories to the small amounts of food I mixed it with and it was pretty tasteless. It helped us avoid a feeding tube and provided some extra nutrition.

Great calorie boosterAug 27, 2011
By DSB I found this product while searching for MCT oil - a high calorie food additive that I used 20 years ago. I've bought a total of four cases, and may buy one more. My son had oral/facial surgery this summer and was on a liquid diet for 8 weeks. Benecalorie has the same calories/volume as regular olive or cooking oil, but it doesn't have an obvious taste, doesn't add an oily or greasy feel to the food, and is very easily blended into foods. It needs to be shaken very well, and still you need to scrape out the remains of the product to get the full calorie benefit. I have recommended this product to a friend whose mother recently had a stroke and is not eating much. Btw - the quickest highest calorie liquid meal I've come up with is a packet of instant cream of wheat, 1 cup milk, 1 tbsp butter, and a benecalorie. 500 calories in a cup of liquid. Unfortunately it got old having it for breakfast everyday.

Help with weight gainJun 13, 2010
By Ann Lee My 87 year old mother had major weight loss because of the side effects of radiation. While her cancer diagnosis was 6 years ago, she never regained her pre-radiation, pre-surgical weight.
This is the first product that has given her any hope, as she detests Ensure and Boost.
Despite the fact her mouth is partially parayzed and she has dry mouth and difficulty swallowing, she has no trouble with this product. It has actually given her hope.

A Lifesaver!Jul 14, 2011
By Frank Wilson My wife has been undergoing chemotherapy. She hasn't had much nausea, but she lost her appetite and food seemed to smell and taste bad to her. She was rapidly losing weight. I had heard of Polycose, and ordered some from Amazon. This product was listed as frequently bought with it. I read the reviews and the information on the the manufacturer's Web site and ordered a case. She is on her seventh case now and is gaining weight. When she couldn't stand food, she could just gulp one of these down and get 330 calories and 7 grams of protein. I strongly advise anyone who is dealing with a similar challenge to try this product.
