Avoid these!Oct 14, 2007
By Kingwood22 Beach Cliff sardines are awful!!! The can I just opened had a total of three fish in it instead of the dozen or so I expected. The fish was dry and hard to eat. This was true of the tomato sauce and hot sauce varieties.
My dog thinks they are tasty (she gave more than one star).
Consider other brands of sardines or regret your purchase.
Three big mild tasting and not very pretty fish with balanced flavor.Jan 22, 2010

What you get in here are the big fish that get sold as "sardines". I still haven't figured out what exactly a "sardine" is. There seems to be multiple kind of fish that get called "sardines".
Anyway, these are the big ones, and the come packed in a mild tomato sauce. Really not much to look at, and I'd recommend not looking if you're the "eat out of the can" type like me. Putting them in a bowl and microwaving about ten seconds warms them up a bit and seems to improve the taste, which I found rather mild by sardine standards and actually balanced surprisingly well with the tomato sauce.
I'd recommend these if your sardine budget is tight and if you want to perhaps chop these up and put them in a seafood stew or eat them over rice. In other words, put them in something else.
These aren't the worst sardines I've had by a long shot, but there are far more appetizing sardines out there if you want to spend a bit more. I'd recommend buying a can at a store and trying them before committing to a pack of 24 no matter how inexpensive they seem to be. In sardines, you get what you pay for and I'd say pay more.

Don't buy for qualityNov 14, 2007
By J. Anderson I agree with the previous post. Dry and three big fish. The "hot" sauce is not hot. Flavor is not as good as other brands. On the plus side, they are cheap, and they are from the US.

Not sardinesDec 20, 2009
By Jeffrey Ziegler I guess there is no legal definition of "sardines." That's why Beach Cliff can get away with putting that name on their package. These are NOT sardines -- they are herring. You get 3 nice, chunky fish in the can, not the dozen or so sardines you would expect. On the plus side, you get a nice protein fix for cheap! But if you want sardines, get some King Oscars in extra virgin olive oil. They're on the same shelf.
