Backcountry Cowboy MudAug 13, 2008
By mwc We recently moved from Seattle - the coffee capital of the world - to Winthrop. We did not anticipate being able to buy a locally roasted coffee of the excellent quality of Backcountry Cowboy Mud or any of Backcountry's other roasts. Mud is a full-bodied, rich and never bitter French roast. It is the best French roast coffee that I have had.

Finally found the BEST coffeeDec 06, 2008
By Jack&Ennis I finally found the BEST coffee to brew at home after seemingly infinite trials and errors. Deep, rich, complex and never bitter no matter how strong I make it. I drink coffee straight up... no milk, no sugar so there's no place to hide and "Cowboy Mud" is great. I got lucky and found it by accident among another 10-brand search for the perfect coffee bean in a recent monthly sale at Amazon for about $5.00 a pound. Still worth it at $9.00.

Rich, flavorful - no acidic after tasteOct 31, 2009

Superb coffee. We like dark, rich, flavorful coffee - but hate acidic taste that seems to come along with most full-bodied coffees. This one is great. Ordering more (and more, and more)

Dark and Savory BrewJul 12, 2011

I don't write many reviews. I'm not so good with words. Every once in a while a product comes along that demands a great review. The BackCountry Mud Coffee is one of those products. I love coffee. I am 56 years old. I started brewing coffee in a percolator(with Chock Full O'Nuts coffee) when I was 12. It was a Sunday morning gift to my parents. If you think making a good cup of coffee is difficult theses days, try brewing Chock Full O'Nuts in a percolator. Leave the pot on the stove for an extra 30 seconds and the coffee becomes undrinkable black tar. Put the flame up a little too high and the pot would overflow leaving on the stove a lake of coffee grounds. I learned early that brewing coffee was an art.
I left the Chock Full O'Nuts behind a long time ago, but I still like my coffee strong. The key is the coffee must be strong and smooth, not strong and bitter. Often I have found myself cutting a bitter french roast with a less acidic coffee like sumatra in order to make it palatable. Not so with this brew. The BackCountry boys have managed to create a blend that is strong, flavorful and smooth - Perfect - and as we used to say back in the mid 1960s.....Good to the Last Drop. Enjoy

Great Coffee!Mar 19, 2011

This is great coffee at a very reasonable price...it's the anti-Starbucks! Plus, this coffee lacks the heavy acid that you get with SB, yet still has a hearty flavor and aroma.
