LP2475W / Love or HateAug 27, 2009

This monitor has so much going for it. The S-IPS panel and wide color spectrum make for a beautiful picture. Monitor rating sites all praise the color reproduction (once calibrated), the uniformity of the brightness across the screen, and of course the wide viewing angle.
I found myself wanting this monitor after seeing S-IPS monitors next to the cheaper TN panels, so I purchased and paid the premium price for a highly rated monitor.
I received the monitor and it was everything I hoped for bright, exceptional color, and indeed uniform brightness... however, mine had a panel defect - a blotch of color that persisted. Disappointed, I called HP to arrange an exchange. My monitor experience went downhill from there.
Hp support couldn't identify the product number of the monitor, so I was shipped around until I ended up at workstation support (1 hour of hold later). A nice Hp rep scheduled a replacement screen to be sent, however it would be a refurb.
I was assured that the refurbished part was extensively tested, and would be just like new.
It wasn't. It had a different panel defect - an area the size of a quarter was constantly lit red. Another call, another hold time of about 40 minutes and I had another refurbished part scheduled to be shipped.
The second replacement arrived with a distinctive green tone on left side, red tone on right, about 7 pixels that were either constantly on or totally dead. To top it off, the monitor was still in a test mode, no serial number entered into the firmware. Clearly not the attention to detail I would expect from Hp.
After escalating, I received another screen (#3), this time new. This one arrived with bezel buttons popped out, however I was able to correct that myself, and the display is perfect.
Technically, I'd give this display (once you receive a working one) a 5 star rating, it is a beautiful screen.
However due to quality control issues, and depending on your level of patience, I would be careful ordering this monitor.
